The rides were FROM the processing center TO Dharmaville. As for when Ben and dad landed, yes, they were welcomed at the dock/sub, but they walked over to the processing center so that Roger could get the job he was assigned. As for Horace, he was right there on the dock. He put his arm around Ben and was talking to him. I forget what about, but he was there.

Horace's first wife?? Any number of things could have happened to her, we haven't been told anything about it...yet.

LOL watch out Blackstring!  Grin  Welcome and Hi from a fellow Brit who has also decided to join in the chat after lurking and just reading for years!

I found all the dock stuff confusing until I read on Lostpedia that there are in fact 3 docks on the island.

Quote
While the precise location of the Processing Center has not been stated in canon, examination of screencaps from "The Man from Tallahassee", "The Man Behind the Curtain" and "Namaste" show at least three distinct docks on the Island: Pala Ferry dock, the harbor and warf dock and a different dock next to the Processing Center.

Evidence from "The Man from Tallahassee" points to the harbor dock location next to the landlocked valley where the Barracks is located, based on the short walk Locke and Alex took there before Locke blew up the sub. This is likely the dock where Juliet arrived in "One of Us". It also has a covered bench at the top of the dock which is not found on the other dock.

The sub was also shown parked near a different dock, in "The Man Behind the Curtain", when it was used to transport the new recruits to the Island, notably a young Ben and his father. This dock differs in both the lack of bench seating, and the addition of white picket wood fencing that runs the last quarter or so of the dock on the land side. When Frank and Sun walk to the end of the dock, this fencing is seen in disarray, partially knocked over. ("Namaste")

This evidence suggests this dock was used to dock the sub when new recruits were arriving at the Island under DHARMA to induct them at the Processing Center, while the more convenient Harbor dock was used by the Others for trips to and from the Barracks.

I like jkbeaulieu's idea that the work Kate and Sawyer were doing was just to maintain the runway and that it may have been built a long time before that.  LOL Hatch Monkey yes they have to keep it maintained for the aliens!  At the time I believed Juliet when she said they didn't tell her everything and I think that I still do.  It just goes to show how much faith was put in Ben that the runway was built without them knowing why (ok so I know Kate and Sawyer didn't have any choice, but they were only working on it for a short time)!

I have no problem with there being three docks. This is one of those things that doesn't matter in the show as far as I'm concerned. One dock, 5 docks, 20 docks, 100 docks, no amount of docks explains to me about what the smoke monster is, what the purpose behind the statue is, Why the Others are there, and every other mystery on the island. Unless everything is being controlled by a guy sitting on a dock somewhere, the docks don't matter.

Yeah we have enough questions to ponder over without worrying too much about the geography of the island!  Nice to see that it does seem like TPTB do have it (continuity etc) covered, well with the exception of Charlotte's age!  Grin  Wink

Blackstring - welcome and the writers have foreshadowed for quite some time now. Possibly we are acknowledging more because things, like the runway are coming into play a bit more.

As for the Runway, I still think the key person responsible for this will be Jin.  If he can influence anyone it will because of his wanting to make sure that Sun will land safely in the future.  Not sure why but my gut holds tight to this theory.

I did find it amazing how the runway was so clear for the landing, while the other buildings were all run down.  I thought they landed real time but was never quite sure.

Additionally that makes little sense about the processing be so close to the water but they needed rides in?  Cause when young Ben landed I thought, and now will have to watch, that they walked there.  Greeted at the sub and not at processing and where was Horace when all of this was taking place.

See it is almost that the writers make this fit what they need to make this fit.

Additionally - Horace okay, off subject here, but direct me if there is a thread discussing, but he was married to another woman what happened to her?

This is what tends to be frustrating continuity of the show.

BobX-  The processing center, when Sun and Lapidus were at the dock was a little bit of a walk.
When Dr. Chang questions Jack he asked who driver was.  so that is what i am asking if Horace was there on the dock when Ben and his Dad arrived they just walked over.
When our 1977 crew arrives they are driven to the processing center.

Or am I watching another show

Ahhhhh, good point. Well, Horace was deffinitely there at the dock when Ben and his dad arrived, I know that, but you're right about the doctor Chang thing. Oh well, like I said before, that doesn't really bother me.
