I know it said 30 years earlier and that makes it 2007/8, but the 2008 buildings looks a little more run down then last time we saw them.

This is true. But remember that 3 years have passed. Granted it does look like more than 3 years of damage... |

but then where are the Others that were with Ben when the mercenaries came
didn't he send them off to the Temple?
so shouldn't they have come back to the buildings ?

KAte and Sawyer build a runway of so their friends can land safetly. Pretty good writing there.
They most of known they were going to need it.

KAte and Sawyer build a runway of so their friends can land safetly. Pretty good writing there.
They most of known they were going to need it.
I thought the same thing, how cool it was that the runway planned since (at least) the start of season 3. |

Isn't that where Locke blew up the sub too? Wouldn't that have damaged those buildings? That and the attack on the buildings by the mercenaries... Yes! I'd forgotten, but the mercs did wreak havoc on New Otherton. I figured the damage on the pier was from Locke destroying the sub. |

Also, the processing building for new recruits not not near the water earlier in the episode, yet right off the dock in 2008. It is unlikely that they moved the building. So...... what gives?

Two seperate locales. But when Jack, Kate and Hurley were driven to the Reception Building to be processed as new DI members, it was a drive. It wasn't right next to the dock. |
