I just remembered. I'm almost certain there either is, or will be soon, at least a tunnel under New Otherton. When Ben was holed up with the Losties dealing with Keamy and Co., Ben went through his closet to a stone room wherein, we presume, he summoned Smokey. We know now that Smokey resides at The Temple, so it seems logical Ben would have to go somewhere else to get to it. So there probably is at least one, if not a series of, tunnels running to different parts of the island.
