Ooo, good call! There's gotta be a reason for that scar...

Yeah, everybody is convinced that it is Horus. I'm not so sure, I think if it was some Egyptian God it wouldn't be intriguing enough. It seems to simple of an answer.

I'm probably letting my head see too much here but, when Juliette looked at the statue, did she do a sort of little smile? Here's a screeny but also have a look if you have the episode at hand. http://i41.tinypic.com/23iulac.pngMaybe it's someone she knows, maybe Richard, but with it already been gone before she was on the island, this would be the first time she saw it. Like I said, I'm most probably looking too far into nothing but you never know.

Richard is by far the best answer. The writers are probably going to stump us completely, but come on, that guy doesn't age. Sounds like some Egyptian magic to me

I haven't watched a lot of sci fi movies...but a few that I've watched have had "Egyptian" aliens coming to earth. You know, the Egyptians were from another planet...
Horace could equal Horus...could Richard be somehow tied into Seth? Horus and Seth fight (two sides fighting/battle) and Seth loses a testicle (well, Horus loses an eye) and thought to be infertile because he doesn't have children...why hasn't Richard had any children (that we know of)?

I was just searching for Anubis on google and I found something intersing as well.. (I searched for Anubis because of the pointed ears) They found a statue of Anubis in King Tuts tomban dthe desciption goes something like this... Tutankhamun's Anubis, like so many others, bears many features characteristic of a dog: long muzzle, eyes with round pupils, five-toed forefeet and four-toed hind feet. But the tail, drooping down the side of the shrine, is long and straight; and club-shaped at the tip, more like the brush of a fox than the curved tail of a dog, which is normally carried in an upright position rather than low down like that of a jackal, wolf, or fox. This is the site I found this on... http://bleedingeyeballs.com/basenjiart/anubisdebate.htmThe only thing I see that doesn't fit is that the statue on the show doesn't have a tail... You beat me to it. Here's the picture. While it's not the same form (upright & posessing human features as well), he definitely has 4-toes on the hind feet. It's funny because other Egyptian gods on Wikipedia like Horus and Anubis use the exact same graphics besides the heads. I can't tell if they're accurate depictions or just laziness by the artist.
Usually each god or goddess was distinctive in many well-developed characteristics, but sometimes just the "masks" were changed in Egyptian art. As far as whose face it is....I think it's Anubis, & the face won't resemble any LOST character. In all honesty, I doubt that we'll ever get back to the statue. The writers may feel like they sufficiently resolved the mystery last night.

Someone on the investigation page said it could be Taweret - godess of fertility. Look at these two pictures: The ears are right, the two crosses are right, the hat is right, and even the TOES are right. But apparently she has no dress and she is chubbier, but I think it's a better choice than Anubis. And it fits onto the show, I mean with all the fertility problems... maybe the purge upset Taweret, therefore no children!

Unless the producers give us conformation on the statue, I think we are left to ponder it. We are not going to get another chance to see it completed.
Personally I think the island was inhabited by Egyptians for a period of time when the statue and temple were built. Richard was a Pharaoh or a man of enough significance to be mummified and has gained eternal life.

For my next guess, Smokie was locked/trapped inside the statue.

Richard Alpert : RA Horace: Horus
I am thinking that Richard is Ra, and the statue is of Horus. Too many Egyptian gods had ankhs in one hand and a staff in the other. I think that Richard and Jacob are the last "living" natives of the island.
