Locke had to do this with his father's body. He had to prove something to the others.

The others wanted payback for their guys being killed. He had to bring proof.

I thought it was proof, too, but bodies seem to be awfully important in a couple of different places - Locke's father, Christian, Emi (Eko's brother), and of course, Locke himself.

When Amy said she and Horace had a fight about Paul, it made me think they she was seeing his ghost and maybe Richard had a hand in that.

It could be for proof I guess but I think it would be much more interesting if it turns out that the whispers we hear once in a while really ARE the people who died on the island.

I think the "eye for an eye" thing is what it is for.

They may be canibals too and just want a bite to eat.  LOL

If the two Others did kill Paul for no good reason, and thus were the instigators in breaking the truce, I'm a bit surprised that Richard didn't take more responsibility for their actions.  Which suggests two possibilities:
   1) Richard is not in total control of his people, or factions of his people.
   2) The two Others did this on orders for Richard.  Which begs the question: why kidnap Amy?  Only if she is more valuable that she otherwise was made to appear.  Or, the Others were looking to grab the baby, i.e. the baby is valuable.

Other body considerations:
- bodies of the kidnappers HAD to be burried, 'how deep did you bury them' Horace asked Sawyer.  WHY?
- Nikki and Paulo, let us not forget the WORST episode in this saga.

bodies are IMPORTANT.
perhaps they come back to life?  Nikki and Paulo might be a foreshadowing of that.

What say you?

They had to be burried because there was a truce.  They could not just leave them there because they would find them.  Horace asked Sawyer how deep they were burried to be sure Richard would not find them.  Nikki and Paulo will not be brought up again in this show.  TPTB realize they made a big mistake by introducing new characters in the way they introduced them.

by the way.  I didn't like Nikki and Paulo but their episode was actually pretty good.  I mean they connected them in the things we already saw in the show very well.

Looking at a old transcipt from .......The Man Behind the Curtain

RICHARD: What you got there?

BEN: It's a birthday present. Mine just happens to be today. You do remember birthdays, don't you Richard?

What do you think this meant back then? Pretty funny now
