The kidney surgery was off island so I understand that..
But think about how bad they beat Ben when he was captive in the hatch and how cut up his face was.. yet no scars?
It would have been much easier production wise to not scar Locke's face unless there is a reason for it.. Like someone posted earlier in the thread.. He has to undergo make-up every episode, that just seems like a lot of work for something that has no meaning.

Yeah, Maven, that's what I was thinking too...usually wounds that heal quickly don't leave scars (at least in my experience). His facial scar was sustained coming into the island, and it healed quickly...so the scar shouldn't be as noticeable as it is.

I think the point here is that Locke heals quickly, and he's got a scar over his eye...both of which have significance. What that significance is, I can only guess, same as everyone else. But if a broken back is a broken back, and dead is dead, and a scar is a scar...well, the first two have been proven wrong, so why not the third?

I'm just watching the re-air ...  am I crazy, or does he not have the scar when he wakes up in Tunisia?Huh??

At first I didn't think he had it when he pulled off the Jedi hood, but he seemed to have it when talking to the sheriff lady.  Maybe he only has it on-island?

What about when he was in the coffin?  Did he have it then?

Edit:  Never mind.  I can see it now.  But I swear it's more obvious in some scenes than others.  I couldn't see it at all in the desert.  Must be the dry air.   Smiley

I always thought it was natural.  But looking at pics it doesn't appear to be on his face

Too funny -- the commercial that just played during the re-air was for Mederma -- "You no longer have to live with your scar."   Grin

Same here, LiL.  Just assumed it was like Harrison Ford's chin scar.  Cheesy  No dice.  It has to be for the story.

Watching last night's episode during the opening recap it did look a little less pronounced than before.. Don't know if it was just the lighting or what.. But that would be cool if it slowly disappeared now that he is resurrected.

ohmygoodness. LOL  I just saw that commercial the other day, & thought, "I should get some for Lily."  (My daughter just had kidney surgery.)  My very next thought was, "Locke needs that too." Undecided

I had always assumed that it was a crash injury.

Other "eye" connections-

the glass eye found in the Arrow
Patchy's (presumably the owner of said eye) missing eye
the closeups of eyes featured as many scene openers
the Swan mural painting had a one-eyed man
the eye seen @ Jacob's cabin
Locke's backgammon chip eyes in Claire's dream

More??

The eye of Horus. It's something about numbers, but not the right numbers.

Check it out.. While I was looking through lostpedia I found this cool little tidbit and realized the connection..
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Horace

"Horus is a god of the Ancient Egyptian religion. Horus had a man's body and a falcon's head. The Eye of Horus became an important Egyptian symbol of power. Horus fought with Seth for the throne of Egypt. In this battle one of his eyes was injured and later it was healed by Hathor. This healing of the eye became a symbol of renewal and rebirth"

The only reason he still has the scar is for continuity, Lakie.

Nope, not a birth mark. We know it's a scar directly related to the crash. as you can see from the thread.
but yeah, the scar might have meaning. or just for continuity like jb and others said.

JB, are you studying to be an engineer, or something?  Why does he have that scar and no one else has crash injuries, huh, huh?  Wink
