Okay, this could be because I'm about to cross over to VIP and I wanted to start a new thread...but I have been wondering about this since Day one of Lost. Why does Locke have this scar?

Season One

They have continued throughout the show to have him have a scar that Terry O'Quinn does not have.

Season Two

Season Three

Season Four

Terry himself

That means that every day before he plays Locke he has this significant facial scar put on as makeup.

Wanna know why I think he does?  I think like King Lear he will have his eye cut out by Ben in a great struggle.  And he will be healed before their eyes.

It didn't quite heal as fast as other wounds either too.

Seriously.  Wouldn't it be interesting if it loops right around with the re-do of the 815 crash?  Somewhere their being in the island past is going to loop back up to 9/22/04, don't you think?  I mean, they were on the sixth Matrix, right?  Wink

Where did you find that picture of Terry O'Quinn? It looks like he just bought a pair of new jeans.. LOL. It's pretty awesome.

I don't have any ideas about what you're asking, I just wanted to comment on the picture.  Roll Eyes

Yes, ole Terry with some nice new blues is too adorable.  But that facial scar is a mystery to me.  I just had to go out on a limb and say I think we are going to see him GET that scar.

I wonder if the scar has appeared in any flashbacks, and if we could peg the time period it happened.  Maybe it was when his dad threw him out the window?

Of course, maybe it's from a time loop and hasn't happened yet.

Maybe it will show up as a clue to help us keep pre-crash Locke straight from post-crash Locke now that we have time travel.....

this is pic of him waking up after the crash:

then from a flashback in his first flashback epi:

he definitely didnt have it at the box company, and he was bloody in the exact same place the scar still shows. He got it in the crash of flight 815.

Yep.  The version of the crash that is going to be shown in the redux.  There is no earthly reason for them to support IN PRODUCTION a scar like that without it playing a narrative role.

Never realized just how handsome Terry really is. (not john though) and i always stare at his scar and wonder if they made him get hurt in the crash there because Terry o has that scar in real life and they worked it into the show or if it is makeup. Guess it is makeup! So if it is of great significance then tptb really did know what they were going to do from the start! Since his wound was there from day one!

I have allways been interested in the scar on Johns eye. I dont know if this is a "stab in the dark", but I have seen this type of scar depicted excessively in Japanese pop culture (Manga, video games, anime? ect...). I am not really versed on this subject but I can assume that it holds some sybology in their culture, I just dont know the refrence. Or, I could be mistaken.
