Widmore (and Mrs. Hawking)
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:08:16 PM »
OK, so Widmore wants to find the island. Mrs. Hawking resides in a church that is built over a Dharma hatch that pinpoints the island location. Widmore knows where Mrs. Hawking lives. But instead of going to her and asking/forcing her to show him where the island is, he conceives this mega-mission with mercenaries, scientists and ghost busters, where they have to find the island. Why? Doesn't he know about the hatch? Or would it be "against the rules" to go to Eloise?
And furthemore, when the mission fails, why not go then to E.H. for the new location? Ben seems to think moving the island will solve everything.
Wait a minute, I just realised I don't remember how the freighter folk actually found the island in the first place. Do we know? Maybe Wid did actually go to Ellie...

Oh, and whatever happened to the "Sun works for Widmore plotline"? Where does Charles fit into all this? Did he just tell her where to find Ben and let her do the rest? Is she still loyal to him? Why is Widmore so oblivious to the whole O6 getting back. You'd think that he would have spies following to every one of them. Hurley and Sayid were probably allover the news. Yet he seems not to care. Maybe the misterious 316 passenger works for him.

i bet they were lovers. wouldn't be surprised if Daniel is their love child. but they had a massive row about leaving the seat up, and Mrs H ran off with Mr W's map of the Pacific

it's late - I'm tired.
sorry

I think your point is quite valid.  Ben and Widmore are subject to rules... it would seem they're getting broken but there are rules all the same.  And, could Ben appear to be more of a subordinate to Ms. Hawking?  Ben referred to her as the teacher when talking to Jack about how he got to stay after class.  Because we tend to consider it a Ben vs. Widmore conflict, it would stand to reason that Widmore is beneath Ms. Hawking as well.. in what way, not sure.  They say knowledge is power.

Seat up.  Ha!  But you have a valid point.  They are tied to a past relationship.  Both tied to Daniel.  Their son?  Its been the assumption on the threads, and makes some sense.  He knows where she is, and presumably what she is working on.  Are they working together?  Diametrically apposed?  If not together then surely he has someone tracking her efforts who are on to the O6 and are on the plan.

She does seem above Ben in authority, so perhaps she is over Chuckie as well.

This is something that's had me thinking, too.  What is the relationship between Mrs. Hawking, Widmore and Dharma and even Ben for that matter?

I tend to believe Richard Albert is Daniel's father, not Widmore, but they both were there in the same time period so either one is possible I guess.

I'd feared at the beginning of this season I was getting too many answers to my many ?s and that the show wouldn't be so much fun anymore as I tried to figure it all out, but it still has me trying to figure everything out.  Often surprises me how much I think about this show.

I think Ben is beneath her (er...that's what she said)...but as for Widmore--I'm thinking the playing field may be equal.  We don't know what he or Hawking are capable of, really.
