I am also giving this a 10.
It answered many things, we finally know what 316 means. We found out that Dharma figured out where the island was and confirmed the windows, the island moving so BobBX you are right about the black rock. They make it back but not all in the same era perhaps? Kate finally did something right for the good of all.
Ellie not really over joyed about her son. More later

I gave it a 10. The answer about Christian's shoes alone was worth the 10. I did find the lack of information on where Aaron is and whether or not Ben killed Penny made me want to give it a 9. Sayid being handcuffed, and Hurley having a guitar case, out weigh any negatives.

This may be my first vote ever before a rewatch. I give a 10 for sure. I was at the edge of my seat all night. They tried to throw us for a loop with the "fake Sayid" then bam Sayid is in handcuffs just like Kate was. Then Hurley is there and he buys all the extra seats!!!!
loved this ep!

This was a phenomenal episode. It was emotionally moving without being overly dramatic, and it actually made me like the O6 again. This is the first time this season that I actually wanted to follow the O6's story.
There were so many parallels, between "recreating" flight 815 as closely as possible, to Jack waking up on the island, staring at the treetops. But we also got some new questions: Ajira is brought up again, what the heck happened to Ben?, how did everyone get on the plane? etc.
So far, I'm not thrilled about Jack explaining the shoe-thing. I think it could have been stronger to see more, instead of relying on Jack's dialogue, because it's such a fantastic story. How he told the story to Kate didn't equal his emotion at finding the shoes in his grandfather's luggage.
Also, I didn't really care for the Mrs Hawking in the basement explaining stuff while Desmond just watches without saying anything. I loved the answers she gave (especially to Jack: Is he telling the truth? Hawking: Probably not), but Desmond kinda hangs out before he says anything. If this woman really destroyed four years of his life, I expected a quicker reaction from him, that's all! Hawking's explanation in the basement was the slowest part of the episode, and even though I liked her answers, I was kind of losing interest (notice they kept the swinging pendulum in a lot of shots...because there wasn't any other action, and they needed to keep things moving, this is a common trick in film-making).
So, it gets a 9 from me. I loved it.

okay after JB stating it was best episode ever I decided to rewatch it-right then, because I originally was not impressed with this episode. I thought it was a creepy episode-how creepy was Jack's granddad! He did a great job as an actor IMO-he had Christian's mannerisms and the way he talked down pat! Way to go Ray! Kate-where to start...something happened to Aaron and she won't talk about it, she used Jack for some sex then dissed him on the plane(not a good episode for Kate). Hurley was great for the five min he was on there-I swear I thought a hotpocket was going at Ben again on the plane. I just wonder if the guitar case has a guitar in it or if it's filled with food. Sun was a non issue in this episode. DESMOND-omg! great great great! I thought he was going to rip that pendulum down and smash it. I don't know who he thinks he is kidding we all know he is going back! Jack-good story with the grandfather, and I liked the interaction with Ben in the church(story of Thomas). So glad he opened that letter. Ben-bloody bloody Ben-was beat up again. All I can say about him is what a jerk!!!! First time around I was thinking a 6 it just felt choppy, but after watching it again I will move it up to an 8. Loses a point for the Aaron mystery and another because of Kate/Jack.

I gave it a ten! Wonderful the way the story moved along. My only complaint is the Granddad. Jack should have gone to his mother to get something that belonged to his dad. Or he could have used the watch Christian gave him before he married Sarah. We didn't even know his grandad was still living. He just came out of nowhere. Maybe they couldn't get Veronica Hamel to come back. Too bad. Other than that it was great! I hope Frank made it to the island. He was supposed to be there the first time they carshed.

Finally! THIS is the epi I have been waiting for! More WTF/hour than we've had in a long time. Some questions answered in interesting ways I didn't see coming... Awe at how the O6-1 came together at the last minute, thinking Ben was not intended to return with them... but then he makes it at the last minute, Lapidus as the pilot..... Great epi, this is the reason I watch Lost.

Oh Bambi - Kate has had some bad writing this entire season. I am still unhappy with this character and can only hope redemption the second time on the island. They continually cloak her in mystery, with sun calling her and her acting so mysterious about it and how she greeted Sun. The running and money but then not knowing where to go. Yes, ignorning Jack was a bit odd, but then again she is not suppose to leave the country and perhaps not trying to attract attention. Funny - looking over the ratings from the past episodes, I guess I didn't think of taking points off for items I didn't care for. I have been enjoying this and glad to watch it again this morning. I thought the Grandpa was adorable, out of no where, but then why not. this is LOST I agree that Desmond's anger and frustration was short of him taking the room apart. I also thought about Ben and you know, I think most of thought that he had achieved something, but I thought that perhaps Ben met up with some of Widmore's friends. Let us face it if we don't believe that Charles has Penny and Desmond followed to LA for protection then we have not been watching the same show. As much as Charles may dispise him for being weak (Desmond) He loves his daughter with all his heart, and Ben just may have been beaten up by yet another set of Keamy like folks. I can only say this with a hopeful heart as remember the island is not yet done with Desmond. And we do not know where Pen and lil Charlie were

My only problem with the shoes thing is that in the end, it would appear we spent like 5 minutes of airtime to visit with Granddad when we could have spent that on more WTF-ery. While I was watching it I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Jack to invite his grandfather back to the island, but afterwards felt let down.
I also wonder about the scrap of paper Jack was holding... he went from holding the letter on the plane to holding a scrap that was singed, like it had been through a firey plane crash, and yet, no one remembered the plane crashing.
My feeling on Bloody!Ben was that he went to "take care" of Penny and that his behavior on the phone indicated it didn't go as well as he had planned. I wonder if he went to the ER or if he just patched himself up at the kennel. lol.
