I believe that within the hidden temple, they will find the Steps of Knowledge and various rope bridges. Hopefully, the Blue Barracudas will be there to help them win. |

It's protecting the Island!!!! I finally got my F-ing archeological dig site and I'm thrilled about it! http://lost.cubit.net/assets_c/2009/02/5x05_temple_01-1773.phpI love the hieroglyphs too.  Are the same people that built the temple the same people that built the 4 toed foot?
I hope so... Do the people that Ben sent to the temple know that it is Smokey's home?
Good question! I think he sent them there to keep them safe, but who knows what Ben is really up too. After "Jacob" (Christian) tells Locke he has to move the Island, Ben mirror flashes someone a message. I guess he flashes Richard (yeah, I said it) that Locke is going to move the Island and to take cover in the Temple. |

The architecture reminds me of Southeast-Asian temples. Angkor Wat, etc. But with Egyptian hieroglyphics? Strange.
I wonder why Smokey uses a crack in the foundation instead of the front door? hmmm.

Definitely looks Cambodian, Vietnamese, or Hindu. I think smokey comes from the same place as the wheel/well. Well below the surface! |

I think that Smokey only attacks those who are afraid of it. Remember Locke when he first saw it? He said "I looked into the eye of the island and what I saw was beautiful". And Eko said that he wasn't afraid of it to Charlie, so he didn't run from it. It was only until he saw his "brother" that he got emotional and pissed it off.
Maybe if only one isn't afraid. If Richard was leading the Others to the Temple then he would stand his ground and get everyone inside.

My first thought was Angor Wat as well. Great job by the set designers, I love these huge sets they build out of plywood and spray paint in the middle of a jungle. Awesome.
I was confused at first, When Danielle took our losties to the blackrock in S1 she called it the dark territory and said "this is where Montond lost his arm". Yet when we see the actual location of that incident in S5, there is no mention of the blackrock and in S1 no mention of a temple. Do the writers not watch old episodes every day like we do?

I still think that when Montond lost his arm and shot down the hole, then suddenly says "Its OK. His gone. Come on down" or whatever I started yelling "DON'T DO IT!! IT'S A TRAP!!" I mean, why would he now sound calm, his f***ing arm was just torn off!!
I say it was Smokey using the old "Candygram" routine from the early years of SNL.

Before Danielle shot him, didn't Robert tell her that Smokey was a security device for the Temple? If I recall correctly, Danielle said that to some of our survivors, maybe near the security fence.
Yes, that's what Robert told her. I don't remember when she told that to the losties, but she did use that exact same term. |

Smokey has stealth mode... I think the others took Nadine, not smokey. The others take Cindy in the same way in season two. |

I just had a thought. If the temple is as important as we want to believe then what is stopping it from being just like Jacob's cabin? Maybe it also has the ability to move around the island or even hide itself by turning, dare I say it, invisible?
