Could have been Bernard shooting. He knows how to use a gun right?
Rose would kick his ass for acting like Mr. Tough Guy.

I think it's important to key in on who is most likely to be doing the chasing and the shooting... not who has the ability to do so.  Inclination over opportunity.

If we're singing I'm gonna need a mic and the lyrics.

No worries S_L!  Our Lost Karaoke System has the lyrics right on the display screen. Be sure to wear something shiny so that the Super Disco Ball Light will reflect off your outfit!

It can't be an earlier version of Juliet and the gang in the second boat, it's a different boat with two sets of pontoons.

Don't think the "others" would just randomly pop shots before finding out who they are shooting at, past shows they are more about controlling the situation than random violence.

The only people that have shown the shoot first motto have really been Widmore's people, so that's my vote on who's on the second boat..

If its their future selves, then surely they would already know that the boat in front of them is their past selves, making it unlikely that they would start the shooting, or even return fire for that matter.  Afterall, if I kill my past self it unlikely I'm going to enjoy the results.....

I thought it may be their future selves - maybe they fired shots purposely to miss because they know that's what happened to them and they have to do the same because they can't change what has already happened (does that make sense?)

I was thinking the people in the other canoe were maybe the Oceanic 6.  Locke & co found the Ajir Airlines bottle in the canoe.

Well, as of the events in "316", Jack, Kate and Hurley are in 1970-something.

It could either be Sun, Ben and Sayid, or other survivors from Flight 316.
