Here's why Desmond is different than the rest...

when time traveling, only Desmond's mind travels. his body doesn't travel, but rather collapses until his mind gets back... the people on the island travel with their mind and bodies. this is why Des is so special and how the "rules don't apply" to him, according to Dan's theory.

Yeah, but WHY? why is he time traveling differently than the rest? the answer to that is what makes him special. this is just how we know he is.

Well, he started suffering from nose bleeds, just like Charlotte is.

What makes Desmond and Charlotte similar?

We don't know if Desmond would physically time travel like the others are doing, because he wasn't on the Island when it moved.

well desmond started experiencing the craziness and flashing when they were on the way to the freighter, and frank was struggling to stay on the bearing. maybe the fail safe radiation combined with that cause des to "mind travel"

Could it be that the people who are not having this problem (all the losties ) have their constants with them and we just don't know it?  * Disclaimer*, this thought is still in it's early stages so I haven't thought of any holes in the theory yet. but I'm sure if there is any someone will tell me! lol ;D but I just thought I would throw that out there. Do we really know what makes someone a constant? I think Dan tells Desmond in the freighter but I don't remember what he said.

I like this Idea. Maybe if Desi were on the Island now, he wouldnt be "enslaved by time and space" like Alpert and the Others...
