Hanso?
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:56:28 PM »

So with these new developements, where exactly does Hanso fit into this?

Between Alpert/Locke/Ben and Widmore and Whomever Brought the Bomb?

they will not pass by the wayside, as likely not, but where are they fitting in?

Just another interloper on the Isle?

Hanso and Jacob have a connection, maybe?  Or they are one in the same.

Good question.
They fought off the US military, but allowed Dharma to come in and take over. That does not make sense.
We may find out that there is a reason that the Others needed Dharma for awhile.

Magnus Hanso's final resting spot was marked on the blast door map and we know the time frame of when the Black Rock sailed.
With Alvar being his grandson, he would have known about the island's properties from Tovard's journal.  That would have been motivation to fund Dharma.
Maybe Magnus is the top of Richard's chain of command.

Just throwing this out for conversation...... For whatever reason young Mr. Widmore ,be it by force or choice, leaves the island with knowledge of this "special place". Mr. Hanso made his empire in munnitions and Charles has knowledge of an H Bomb dropped on the island. With a little research he could put the two together. He approaches Hanso with tales of a "mystical" island that has special properties. Hanso still not moved until Widmore gives specific information in regards to Jughead and the crew sent looking for it as well as information about the Black Rock. Hanso would view the island as a place to conduct taboo and quasi-scientific research. Widmore and Hanso begin recruiting for the start up of DI. All is going well until the purge. Now that leads to how Widmore selects his freighter team specialists because he met them in 1954. He understands because it did happen that it must happen in the future and this is why he funded Farraday's research. Or maybe not.

Sorry for not being more specific but yes the juggster would be a Hanso creation. If you drop an H bomb on an island and it doesn't go boom wouldn't you be curious as to why. The gov't that is paying your contract would certainly like to know and that is how the twenty soldiers ended up there. Widmore would be able to name the soldiers names and that would be an eye opener.

This does make sense, but the problem I see with it is that young Widmore is apparently very oppossed to outsiders on the island, so why would he want to help fund the projects of the DI???

Wealthy people like to be wealthier. The research Hanso and DI were involved with could be very lucrative if they maintained control of the island. Not to mention a young Widmore may not have enough wealth to engage Hanso in a financial battle for the island circa the early 1970s. Imagine Widmore describing an ageless guyliner wearing Richard to Hanso and thus the "life extension" program begins.

Right, but I get the sense that Widmore is all about getting back to the island to lay a claim. The idea that the research would lead to extreme fiduciary gain does make sense, but it seems to me that the less people there the better, regardless of the reason they have to be there.

Hanso supported the Dharma Initiative finacially.

this may sound like a rookie question, but have we learned about Hanso on the show?? Or was everything Hanso related from one of the ARG's?? I am clearly picturing a grainy film where Hanso is mentioned, but I can't place it anywhere specific. Swan orientation?? You tube??
