basically I think it is because Desmond is special as we can see he is on the island in the time shifts and in the real world in 2008.  So his brain didnt get that info from Daniel until 2008.   I dont know Time Travel is confusing.

Too funny -- I'm now over on Jeff Jensen's EW site reading his summary as suggested, and there's a big ol' pop-up ad for Estee Lauder's Time Zone Wrinkle-Reducing Creme, with the banner "Turn Back Time!" below it.    Did they link that ad to "Lost" stuff on purpose I wonder, or was it just destiny?

It's because Desmond is Daniel's Constant that Daniel 2005 can send a message (through Hatch Desmond) to Desmond 2005.  If Sawyer had given the same message to Hatch Desmond, it would just be a 2001 incident and Desmond 2004 would recognize Sawyer when they first meet.  Only because they have a special connection can Daniel 2005 place a memory into the consciousness of Desmond 2005.

Why is it that Des only remembers meeting Faraday in 2008??

I understand that Des is special, and it seems that the law of time does not apply as it does to everyone else (the whole "time is a piece of string") but why is it that he remembers now and didnt always have this memory?

I guess wot im trying to say is that if Faraday is in 2004/05 (or previous) when he tells Des, and Des remembers it in 2008, does that mean that there is some kind of "anchor" in time, where if a change is made it is in Des' time?

I have probably just made no sense at all......Maybe Des' memory is just shot...

its because it didn't really happen, until Daniel went back and told him. Daniel changed what Des remembered, and Des remembered in 2009 because of this. Daniel could do this because "the rules don't apply to Des" because of the whole jumping back in forth in time thing

I Think she is both time cop and Daniel's mom.. Daniel seems to have a greater grasp on this whole time travel thing than anyone should logically have, even as a scientist.. What if he posed as a professor working on time/space project just to gain notice of widmore? Maybe he is working with his mom in a time police type of sting to make sure events on the island don't screw up time on whole.
If there is one thing we have learned, it's that no one's motives are ever clear at first on this show..Daniel went from bumbling fool throwing theories out, to confident save the day kind of guy.
Maybe they are both from a future Dharma division sent back to fix things.. Hence the Comicon video of Candle pleading that Dharma be re-formed in the future..

On a seperate note.. Fun fact about Fionnula Flanagan, the actress playing Eloise..

Now that's funny! Maybe that's why they picked her to play this part.  I wouldn't be surprised lol! tptb are crazy enough to do just that .

I think the reason for Dans sudden confidence and clarity is because he's done this already. I just can't figure out the details to back up my theory yet, but I feel this is a second run for him. lol like he went back in time (or forward in time, it depends on when he did it. in his past or in his future) and now the knowledge of all he did here, has caught up with him. (like Des and his new memory of Dan banging on the hatch door.) and I think that is why Dan keeps referring to his journal A LOT! even before Charlotte sat down to give him a mango, he stopped , looked at his book and then was able to talk to her. so I think he did this and then journaled it. now he's following his  journal. or something along those lines. Just my guess.
