You can use mirrors to signal Morse code, but it's not practical due to the pauses in between digits. Someone may think your dot was a dash, etc.
Signal mirrors are used, for the most part, as a signal/acknowledgment application. I received Level II SERE (Search Evade Rescue Escape) training in the Air Force.

DID ANYONE NOTICE THE "NUMBERS" AT HURLEY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY? 4 PALM TREES WERE ON THE LANAI, 8 BALLOONS WERE BY THE POOL, 15 PRESENTS WERE ON THE TABLE, 16 PARTY HATS ARE WORN BY BACKROUND PARTY GUESTS, AND 23 & 42 WERE THE NUMBERS ON THE JERSEYS WORN BY 2 BOYS NEAR THE POOL.
