I always figured the power source was geothermal - use the internal heat of the island (it most likely was a volcano) to heat water into steam to run large generators.......

or there is a long room with a series of true donkey wheels with donkeys alking on treadmills...  Wink

Right!  We know that it was a volcanic Island from Olivia's lesson on "The Man Behind the Curtain."  I've always assumed the power source was either geothermal, solar, electrochemical (the Tempest & Goodwin's burn), electromagnetic (the Swan's magnetic properties & Sayid's comment about the concrete), or a combination of any of these.

OR....hamsters. Wink

PL, et. al. found this in regards to geothermal power...

"From an engineering perspective, the geothermal fluid is corrosive and, worse, is at a low temperature compared to steam from boilers...."

they blew up the swan so how is that power there anymore?
I thought they were typing the numbers in to release the power now that Desmond turned the failsafe and it opened up the small window for Penny's artic team to find them.

Who knows.  I prefer hamsters

There is no Swan to power! lol  It's now The Crater. Wink  No...I'm not saying that the Swan itself powered the entire Island.  I was pointing out all of the known possible power sources.
