YOU CAN SEE THE ISLAND

I thought the island was invisible. Yet, in the scene with Des and Sayid on deck, just before they go to see Mike in the engine room, Des is resting on the side rail and over his back you can see the sun setting and the island. Did the boat penetrate the protective bubble?

actually there is a screen shot when Regina jumps in the water, but I think it was a filming goof...

I don't think it was a filming goof only because you don't see that in the actual show. It was only a picture, maybe taken just to document filming.
the boat might be getting closer to the island and that's why now you could see it. even though the engine isn't working , (I THINK but I'm not 100%  :-\) they are still being pulled towards the island. I believe the captain said something like that on the episode that sayid and Desmond moved rooms. But, if someone knows for sure that would be very helpful.  ;D

Yeah, either Sayid or Desmond remarked that the boat wasn't moving and the Captain replied with "You think so?" (or words to that effect).
