Ben is a fanatic. He may have good motives, but his means are questionable. He also is a notorious liar.

Widmore appears to want to exploit the island, at least according to Ben (who is a notorious liar). He is not a very cuddly, likeable fellow at any rate.

I don't trust either. Ben may be doing what he is doing for altruistic reasons, but I'm pretty sure his reasons are quite selfish.

Ben is a certifiable nut with his own agenda...and Widmore (from what little we seem to know about the guy) just seems downright scary. I don't know why, but Widmore reminds me of Grady the original caretaker from the movie, The Shining.

if ben would just be forth comming with information, i mean what does he gain except a sense of self agrandizement, by keeping secrets from everyone, and widmore, well i just dont trust people whos sole motivation seem to be money.

I think that both ben and widmore are not trustworthy. They both have shown their hands as you will. Ben has shown that he is a good manipulator and widmore has shown that he is the guy who has all the money and can get away with anything. In a life or death situation, i would have to go with ben just because I think Michael emerson is a better actor

I decided to trust Widmore.  The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and Penny seems decent.  Maybe Daddy Widmore is ok, too.
