I feel Alex was killed, because it's the only thing that could shift Ben into Vengeance-mode, and out of the comfortable rut he'd gotten into on the island, which gave him too much time to obsess about frivolous things, like babies and Juliet.
I think Danielle should live. What would be more interesting than Ben stalking those around Widmore for vengeance, and Crazy French Chick stalking Ben when she hears how his denial of Alex as his daughter cost Alex her life?

If Danielle was alive Ben would be dead by now. She blended well into the jungle and after 16 years it breaks my heart that she was knocked off like that.
I did know that someone we knew was going to go, but Karl and Danielle were not the two I had anticipated when that happened. So when the previews showed the gun to Alex's head I began to recall the previews and thought they played with us before and did good jobs mixing and cutting scenes.
But this one scene had me thinking no she is a goner.
So yes, dear lion, it would be awesome to see our French woman doing the number on the boys!

As it seems the Island provides its favorite people with extraordinary healing powers, I wonder if Rousseau has developed a rapport with the island in all her 16 years there, and if so, whether she could cash in a chit for a little superfast healing this time? Hopefully they don't provide us with our promised Rousseau FB like they did with Naomi's lifeless corpse. |

I'm not sure we will get a Danielle FB because the producers have said that they'd LIKE TO get one in IF THEY CAN which sounds to me like it's not a planned part of the story at this point. I could see them working it in during a Ben flashback to the days during the time he became the leader of the Others. They can bring her story back into focus if they ever wrap up the pregnancy issues also.

They do, however, seem to realize that they owe it to the fans. They've said that Danielle's mysteries have been given enough attention that they feel they should still get into her backstory.
