My wife speculated this at the very beginning of the episode when Alex is baby-talking to Aaron. The camera pans down to her mid section, and she's clutching her belly. The camera seemed to linger on this shot for a while. That would explain Ben's wry comment about Karl sleeping with his "daughter," and it could be why they were initially forbidden to see each other. Just some food for thought.

That's not the only thing. Later when Ben send them to death, and when Karl is about to be killed, the camera show a protuberant tummy on Alex. Might be just a mind game from the producers, or might be not. Who knows?

My wife also asked me if Alex was supposed to be pregnant, she got the same feeling from some way she was being portrayed in the scenes. It's always the same with this show, for every question they answer they give us at least one more to wonder about. I love it as long as they tie up the loose ends when it comes to a close. I used to be a big X-Files fan and I STILL don't know what the hell went on in that show!

I'm no doctor or a woman, but if that's true, I'm guessing she's been pregnant on the island since before Ben started going clockwork orange on Karl. They haven't been together long since then.

I'm thinking she's pregnant. It wasn't just the fact that her belly was sticking out in the frame, but the way she was holding her belly, almost as if she was resting her hand on top of the baby . . .

I'm no doctor or a woman either, but I did used to be a teenage boy. They'd only have to be alone for about three minutes, from what I remember!  (Ahem, of course I've matured since then, cough, cough!) |

I think she might be pregnant - My first thought on seeing Alex with her hand on her belly was "Uh oh, she is knocked up."

hummmm. but doesn't every one know what happeneds to people who get pregnant? why would they go and do that? why would ANYBODY on this island get pregnant? it's suicide. I think tptb are just trying to make the point as to why Ben doesn't like Alex to be with anyone. (any guy)

Unless they have super growing babies on the island or unless Alex has been pregnant for a while. That makes me think... who is Karl? If Ben is the last of Dharma and the rest of the Others are essentially "the hostiles" from Richard's group or people recruited from off island, then where did Karl come from and who are his parents? We know people can't get pregnant on the island, and I haven't seen any children besides the kidnapped children from the plane and Alex (who was also kidnapped). And then there's Karl who happens to be around the same age as Alex and I guess they're together just because there's no one else their age. So where did Karl come from? |

I must not have been paying attention too well because I don't remember a single shot of her belly. I'll have to keep an eye out for it when I rewatch the episode.

I believe at one point Ben made is clear as to why he didn't want Alex and Karl together, for fear of pregnancy.
Simply stated he knows how young men are and as to the fact of her being pregnant, well sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
I hope we learn a bit more about how Ben became her father, other than what we know.
