I'm not sure if it was stated on the show. Might have been. But I think the ship that found the plane had the same name as the ship in the game that went live last fall. And it was looking for the BR.

Umm the obvious here was Tom a bit surprised about the news of finding the plane in the ocean. I think that is a big no folks.
They were also surprised that Ben was jamming the signals from the Looking Glass.

I know he bought the ships log, but I didn't know they were looking for the wreck, was that stated?
Remember 1996 is when he purchased and eight years later he stumbles on flight 815..sorry still not buying he stumbled on this flight. Thanks for helping me though http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Christiane_1I think it is strange that they found the plane on a place where they were looking for the Black Rock. The Black Rock is on the island, the plane too. That's why I don't believe there is a set up.

i think there should be another option in this poll, because i think Ben and widmore are working together.
Yes, I do to. Because when it comes down to it, we have people jumping from a helicopter stating that they were looking for Ben Linus. Basic gut instinct here folks, why would you be looking for someone with such vengeance? How did the landing team know about the Dharma stations? They had equipment that would prevent them from being gassed....hmmmm do they just travel around with stuff like that? Why if this was not Penny's boat would Naomi have a picture of Desmond? She was first to land, I am not a recon person, but it was plain to see that she was there to scope things out. Unfortunately she met with the islands little interuption and ended up with a piece of tree in her! As I do not empirical evidence I have circumstantial facts that lead me to saying hmmm they know each other. They have betrayed each other on some level. Widmore is not a man to screw around with and Ben is vengeful so between them both...

I've said for a while that I thought Widmore and Dharma are related. I do not believe Widmore and Linus are working together, tho.
I think that it is possible someone might have leaked Ban's name out to Dharma. If Widmore got a hold of Dharma material, then he would know all about the stations.

But JB if the Dharma initiative was gassed by Ben years ago when he was a younger man(I could be wrong on the time line, but I don't believe he was ancient) then why would Dharma leak anything out. He was part of the Dharma initiative at one point. It is not unreasonable that the Hanso organization is involved with Widmore. The Captain of the freighter stated that they wanted to talk to Ben Linus about the phony flight 815 and how those bodies made it there. It's just to obvious that Ben knows Widmore- Remember Ben is fearful that they will find out that Alex is his daughter. (though I think personally that is yet another set up on Ben's part) - We all have fears some justified some not. SO my point here is that if Ben didn't know Widmore and hadn't done anything to pique Widmore's anger, why is he in fear of them? Why did they send mercenaries on that ship?

It seems clear that they both know of the other. That's still a far cry from working together, though.

We will soon know the relationship of these two individuals. Adversaries, previous business partners, both loved Annie, who knows...

Widmore, for the simple fact of diverting attention away from the island
As I posted, why would he bother with the black box, it would just prove his cover to be false? I'm not insisting that I'm right, just looking for clues either way. I think they are just using the black box as cover, with no real intentions of having anyone listen to it's contents.

He might have put the information in before crashing the plane.

But then if you had all the money and time to dig up bodies, get an empty fuselage and put it down then, then why wouldn't you get the information right all the way. Oddly though why would the captain of the freighter have the bloody box anyway? Because he knew he was going to run into Sayid and Desmond and was going to have to concoct a story as to why they were looking for Benny Benny and the Others (singing to the tune of Benny and the Jets...) You know sometimes you have to wonder what the heck? I always thought it was odd he would have the black box, especially when the families were notified that the plane was found. First thing the authorities would want is the BB. Hmmmm "What you talking about Captain?
