Last night Sayid and Des are still locked in the medical ward of the freighter. Sayid hears a noise coming from some place insdie the freighter and a comment is made about pipes banging. The sound that was being produced sounded more IMO like the noise from the Swan station when Sayid and Jack are standing near the re-cemeted walls from the "incident". Had a humming sound like a magnetic machine.
What do you think was producing the noise inside the freighter?

I assumed it was morse code and forgot about it.  Was definitely something going on for them to include that scene.

would have expected mcgyversayid to have noticed it were it morse, cause that is the kind of stand up Republican Guard he is...a communications officer,

I figured it was the crew "working around the clock" to fix the sabotaged engines...as the answer came quickly after from El Capitan (whom we should not trust by the by....)

Could this be how Michael communicates with the Others?  Could sound be detected that far if the Others were listening for it?  I have zero knowledge in this area so be easy. They did hear singing in "The Hunt for Red October" - on a submarine.   Grin

Didn't Sayid say it was morse code at one point? and I think he knew what it was saying, but didn't tell for some reason.

He didn't say it was Morse, just that it was not mechanical, and hence someone actually pounding on something.

I also assumed it was Morse, and that Sayid recognized it as such -- as a military guy, he surely would recognize it.  What I couldn't figure out was why he didn't tell Desmond that.  Aren't they pretty tight now?  Seems like he would've said "No, it's not mechanical -- it's Morse code," but he didn't.

I think he was about to but the doctor walked in.

I thought perhaps it was the girl the jumped ship...she was banging around the chains until she got them secured around her body? At first I thought it was morse, but waited for Sayid to tell Desmond that, and when he didn't, I figured it was just random banging.

Gar is right, though. The doctor walked in in the middle of this conversation, so Sayid was maybe about to speak up.
