Charlotte Lewis... she said:

"used the gas once before, and he'll use it again" -- how did she know that?? if it was because widmore knows and told them, then how does widmore know?? does widmore have a spy on the island? how did they know that the island had this station? how did they know it contained poison gas? how did they know it also supplied power to the station??

My big question about Charlotte is why send an Archaeologist?  Obviously she has some idea of "what" the Island is, maybe involving past civilizations or cultures. I can't imagine they would send an archaeologist to look into the past 20 years, has to be something more.
As for how she knows, well how did Daniel know how to fix the computer? And why was he worried that he wouldn't be able to do it?  Is this part of the card thing they were doing on the beach?  Obviously they have inside information on all things Island, the big mystery is where that info came from.
Sorry for adding more unanswered questions!

A thought to stimulate conversation: It seems to be a common assumption is Widmore became interested in the island after buying the firstmates journal in 1996. If Papa W was involved prior to the auction why did he have to buy the journal? If he was a major financial backer or even a Trustee of the Foundation wouldn't the Hansos just give it to him? And if it is the key to finding the island or gaining knowledge of the Island then why on this earth would they sell it? According to DHARMA they were "trying to better" the world and that kind of information in the wrong hands would go against that principle. IMO we are being led down the slippery slope of a simple Widmore v Ben storyline. Way to simplistic for TPTB.

This might be silly, but Charlotte's a cultural anthropologist so wouldn't she be more interested in how the other interact and live day-to-day, their social norms, etc? Perhaps she's along with the team to match wits with Ben or use her expertise in study the "DHARMA" society that existed before Ben wiped it out.

I do like that reasoning, and Ben knew whom she was and tried to nail her (with a bullet), perchance he's a bit afraid of her? But then again, he just wants to go through another purge it seems like..so killing them all is really his aim

If that's the case, how's he connected to Hanso?  Not by the journal (1996).  Dharma ribbon cutting was in the '70s, financed by Hanso.

Widmore owns Widmore Construction.  Maybe they did some of the building on the Island

If so, why did he and his freighter people have such a hard time finding the island? Wouldn't they already know where it was and how to access it? (Dharma was still doing food drops, correct?...so they would seem to know where the island is).

I was totally on board with this theory till "the constant", now I don't know... doesn't seem to make sense.

In Bad Twin the Hanso foundation and Windmore Industries had offices in the same building in NYC along with Paik Heavy Industris and were all familiar with each others business.  I realize Bad Twin is non canon material but in theory it would be a good theory.  Hanso/Dharma has this mysterious island, Hanso won't tell Widmore anything about it, Widmore becomes obsessed, eventually finds the journal and can finally try to get the island and steal it from Hanso.

Just a thought

This might just be the new clue to hunt down with all the evidence (?) that's out there...somewhere around here or in the Lost-o-sphere I recall there being a Widmore / hanso connection...will hunt and try to verify....

Only Dharma knew/knows the coordinates? Widdy not finding it might be the same as that old maxim of killing the builders to hide the info of secret rooms....the island is cloaked (in one form or another), they were brought in blindfolded...
