Can someone call that number? 7946-0893. Knowing nothing of UK phone numbers, I don't even know if that is the correct # of digits, etc, but it would be interesting to know.

In britain, the local part of a phone number can have 5 (rare), 6 (most often) or 7 (big cities) digits. We can get around this slightly here because in London you are either in the '7' area (inner london) or the '8' area (outer london). So we could have (0207) 946 0893. It would be a wierd way to give the number though, and would Sayid know to translate it into +442079460893 (uk national code, london area code)? Has Sayid lived in the UK? They did miss the biggest gotcha however - by saying 'its a london number' they get around the fact that between '96 and '04 the london area code changed from 0171 to 0207, which neither past Desmond or past Penny would have known

Some refresh my lost memory of how Sayid agreed to allow Desmond to be the one to make a single phone call.
Where was it that they talked about the possibility that there would be one and only one phone call.
Did Desmond return to the helicopter and say, I am going with Sayid to the boat to make the one phone call taht can save us all?
That whole thing is messing me up.

It was clear to Sayid that Desmond was on a mission, and he exists to carry out the missions of others.
Thanks for the local info, wibblymat. And welcome!

Sayid deciced to use a battery to power the phone instead of using the ships power, thus the writters can get away with not making more calls. Des wanted to go to the boat to find answers, he did not need to call Penny until mid flight when he got messed up.

Agreed - plus I think Sayid had a transformation when he was in the rec-room alone with Ben.

A transformation that makes him a hitman in the future of course. I thought the same thing at the time.... Sayid became a new man in The Economist and Desmond became a new man in The Constant.

Fantastic summary! Thanks. I hadn't thought of it like that.

Yes - this is what I was meaning. He transformed from "against Ben" to "with Ben". Something happened in that room....

well why did Sayid allow Des to use the power up on one phone call? If I were the one to do all that work I would want to be the one to make a test call before allowing someone else to use the only phone call. or are they going off the end of Charlie telling Des its not Penny's boat? ?

Yeah I thought that was strange to use low DC power source, instead of the ships power...although it could have used a low volt power source, I'm sure he could have patched into the original power source for unlimited power...but I guess that wouldn't be good for the story...lol...

Sayid is Lost's MacGyver, I am sure he had a reason for using the battery. Maybe he didn't want anyone else to make a call.
Sayid seems to be becoming more himself. He won't just go along with things without making sure it isn't a trap. Now he is a mixture of MacGyver and Hannibal Smith type once again.

If Sayid used the ships power and something happened it would have alerted the freighter crew to Syaid doing somehting he shouldn't be doing aboard. Not to mention possibly stranding the freighter in the middle of the ocean.
