For me it was the best, without a doubt.  I don't even have to go back and rethink past episodes.  Some of the earlier episodes were excellent because they were so intriguing, so mysterious, and so open-ended to your own interpretations and explanations.  Now we're getting to the point in the story where the writers have to start explaining things, unravelling the mystery, and for some people, the answers aren't going to work.  I think if you're wanting everything that's happened so far on and off the island to be explained away by hard, prove-able scientific facts, you are watching the wrong show.

And I don't mean to be rude by saying that.  There are just (to me at least) WAY to many WAY out there things going on.

so does everyone think its Michael on the boat?
i think michael is on the boat, but i don't think he is ben's contact.

I really feel Minkowski was Ben's contact that would explain the radiation or electromagnetism on the island.  Wasn't Minkowski the name of Kelvin's swan partner.

I think Michael's on the boat, but I was thinking it was Lapidus that opened the door for Sayid and bloody Desmond.  I do think that Michael is Ben's man-on-the-boat, even though it seems too easy.  The easiest explanation is usually the right one, right?  Maybe Frank and Michael are in-cahoots.

The Constant was definately the best episode of Lost that they have shown us in a long time.  Just when I had begun to think that they had forgotten how to tell a human emotional story, they come through with such a tearjerker like this.  I really thought that this (des and penny reconnecting) was bound to happen at some point but they really nailed it with that second to last scene.  From the previews, I thought that this was going to be another wierd episode of lost getting further into the time travel aspect of the story but I cant say about how they really did a good job of pulling the desmond story further along.  They really gave us something to hope for and look forward to and that is des getting back to Penny.

thank you for saying this, far too many people are losing their "willing suspension of disbelief" and getting mad at the show.

i think this was the best episode of this show so far. i liked this season alot so far, but i felt they were kinda getting away from the mystery portion of it and this brought it back with a vengence.

I think Sawyer vs. Sawyer is best episode ever.  This was an interesting episode.  Informative... a bit confusing, but not the best.

So far I'm to only one to vote no. Phonecall=fixed time traveling just ruined it for me.

It was the deep emotional connection, not the phone call. The phone call was just the device to re-establish that connection. It could have been in person as well.

It would have been more dramatic to have Desmond's brain to basically be a timebomb, with nobody knowing exactly when it's going to go off, or if there's a way to stop the consciousness traveling before it does. But then again, they basically already did that with Charlie so doing it again with Desmond wouldn't work very well. Besides, the sci-fi in "Lost" seems in service to being all about the spiritual journey, the connections between people that run deeper than we know, and redemption. It's less about things like racing against the clock to cheat death.

I'll start by saying I am not mad at the show, writers, or TPTB, but I didn't like The Constant and I really didn't like Flashes.  I'm not a big sci fi fan and this stuff, to quote at lostie, is way, way over my head and imagaination.  I think of time travel as the mind and body traveling through time, in The Constant, it seemed only the mind was traveling.

I am also not really into the big Des/Penny romance through time.  Des falls in love and then runs away too much for my taste.  I stopped watching Lost after Flashes because it became...gasp...boring to me and I just forgot to tune in for the show (my husband, the sci fi buff in the family remained a weekly viewer) and I sense I might skip a few shows after this one too.

I do enjoy the story of Lost.  But I might be the type of viewer who is better off buying the DVD set.  Long story, short, no, this is not my favorite show and it's not even in my top 5, but even TPTB said that either one will love or hate this show with it's time travel qualities.

I am sure there will be better episodes, but I did say so far in my poll.

I totally understand Dizzy's point. I did the same with after Flashes. I felt betrayed with the time travel aspect.
However, Lost is science fiction and not a normal drama like Grey's Anatomy. Christian's ghost led Jack to the cave and brought everyone together with his Live together die alone speech. Kate saw a horse. The smoke monster?

While I am sure that there will be better episodes of Lost, and next week might be better for me, I think this raised the bar and answered more questions than any other episode this season.

Not the best, but very high on the list.  In a way I think it explains Jack's weird behavior in his flash forward episode when he told the chief of surgery to find Christian and see if Jack is drunker than Christian.  Jack is bouncing around in time, too.  I think everyone who leaves the island will experience some degree of past/present/future confusion.

I liked the ending when Daniel found his own note about Des being his constant.  The look of relief on his face was great.

The phone conversation between Des and Penny made me cry, and I'm not a sentimental person by nature.

I actually think that's a great point.
