Why a pager and not a cell phone?
« on: February 21, 2008, 09:26:48 PM »
I had a pager just like that...ten years ago.  It was an early model that could receive and display text messages, before texting was cool.

The mark even made a comment that her boss was old fashioned.

I suppose the advantage would be:
- no need to actually speak with The Economist (but same with cell texting)
- uses regular AAA batteries, no need for chargers
- It's the kind of tech that someone who is behind-the-times would have access to.

the pager was used to create the illusion that she was a low level employee for her boss not a close work associate or a hired assassin.

Pagers only cost about $30 a year to operate, if he only uses it 2-3 times a year why bother with a phone. He is a cheap employer who does not want to pay $30 a month for a phone that wont be used (or could be used to track him down).

one thing you didn't see. is that the back of a pager had a flux capacitor on it.

Elsa said that she used a pager because her boss was old fashioned. Sayid even asked. And lots of people use pagers - I work for a large company that provides cell phones to some of us, but we still have tons of pagers. I find them to be more reliable than cell phones for reception, plus they are cheaper.

Cheap economist maybe?
I've got a Krazer K1M now, but I swear the best phone I ever owned was the Star Tac!
