Hi All, I was just wondering where the hell Richard is. We haven't seen him for ages. He could be the man on the boat? Also in thinking about Richard it made me wonder if Richard and Ben are international recruiters for the island. They have the ways and means to travel around the world and set people up, as we saw in Juilettes recruitement into Mittelos. Its also a coincidence that everyone on the island have nothing really to go back for. They were all escaping something......and then of course the fact that Ben needed a surgeon and on falls out the sky! When Ben was young he ran out into the forrest to find his mother, and who did he run into ...........Richard. Could Richard be more of a key player that we think? He was (we assume) living in the jungle where smokey was and he didnt seem nervous that this thing could get them or anything. Maybe he knows what smokey is and maybe how to control it too! Hope this all makes sense, my head is spinning!

While it has been since last spring that we saw him in the viewing audience, it has only been about 3 or 4 days since we last saw him Island time. The last time he spoke was in the first half of the s3 finale, when Ben took off for the radio tower to meet the Losties. Richard was instructed to take the Others to the Temple. He is not the man on the boat.

I really liked that character. i also think that the writers had a lot planned for him as far as revealing mysteries on the island.
good. sucks for his career, but good for us.

Oh yeah I forgot he was there in that eps. Ok, so he's not the man on the boat, but what about the other points about him being more of a key player than we thought, could that be a possibility? What do you think? Or am I clutching at straws?

I think the Powers once said they had big plans for Richard. If we can get the actor back it's probably not too late for that to happen. If we don't they'll probably give that functionality to someone or someones else.

It kind of sucks that the Lost writers take a character like Richard and make him such an important part of the story and then have to essentially re-write the story because that actor leaves for another show. You know that it would have been written totally different if the actor that plays Richard were available.

Since Cane is unofficially "canceled" and Lost is going back into production for 5 more episodes this season, maybe they'll be able to fit him in.

Welcome BF.
We don't know Richard's origins as yet. He seemed to predate Dharma on the island, but we don't know by how long.

The latest recap seemed to indicate that he was indigenous.
