I really don't believe that Ben goes to an airplane, island hops to the mainland and then gets around. I believe he uses the Orchid Station power to send himself whenever and wherever he wants - the props are not for him to actually travel - they are for when he arrives that he can move around like a regular person. Kind of like how the time travelers in "Wrinkle in Time" have to wear the clothes of the natives so they can make contact with thei subjects.
The interesting thing to me is that whatever corporation is supporting him (Mittelwerk Hanso?) is so far reaching - he's got business everywhere!

The guy masquerading as Locke? I'm officially calling him Bocaj. I don't care if anyone else is on board. Just know that when I use the name Bocaj, I'm speaking of the Anti-Jacob. Oh...I may call him that too. It's official, in my book he is Bocaj and/or AJ. You've been warned

That is a possiblility. But I think whoever (sorry) said the point about Ben being too much in a hurry to travel via submarine was onto something. I don't know how long it would take for a sub to make a trip to america say, but probably a while. Let's say it is a two day trip. Ben had at least a dozen passports, lets say he only used each of them once. That is 12 trips, two days there two days back, already that is 48 days away from the island in traveling time only.

But who says he's taking the sub all the way to America? Why can't he make port somewhere else and then fly?
Remember in Juliette's flashback? Seemed to me she first traveled by plane and then maybe by sub.....

the only problem i have with him using the orchid stations power is well, we dont quite know for sure of the stations powers
oh yeah, and this
we are to assume that the orchid station "teleports" which i agree with, however, we have YET to see an actual teleportation work correctly
IF the polar was in fact teleported, i'm banking on that not being where they wanted it to go
and i know for sure that the Bunny should not have ended up with itself (based on the video)
so i'm gonna go with Ben NOT using the orchid to be world traveler guy

I never believed for a moment that Juliet physically got on a sub and traveled across the wide ocean to get to the island. She took her pill, just like the good little Neo-ite she was, and was whisked down the rabbit hole. The sub was for her comfort - "I got here on a sub - and slept through the trip" instead of "they put me through a time warp and I appeared in harbor moments later!"

I think that whole sub thing was another one of those metaphors. A sub that size would take weeks to go from the west coast to the western south pacific. A modern sub, USS Charlotte (SSN766) for example, has a submerged speed of 32 knots. That little Disneyland sub they used could never reach a speed like that.

Surely Ben has seen the Orchid Video, or the horrific test runs of the equipment in person. No way he'd put himself at risk using that to travel. So yeah, could be other subs. The runway suggests they're considering alternative transportation options for the future. But no way they take the sub across the Pacific. If I were Ben, I wouldn't want to be away from the island for weeks/months - too much opportunity for the troops to get restless. So, if the sub was used, it just made it past the barrier to a nearby safe harbor, where he jumps on a plane to whisk him to all points on the globe.

So, perhaps the sub's only function was to transport personnel to the Looking Glass Station. Given its size, this could be the only reason it was there. In this case, Juliet is really in the dark about the goings on on-island (and off). She seemed eager to use the sub as a means of escape. That is assuming it wasn't a ruse to manipulate Jack. Damn good writing. I can't tell what to think!
