Jack's Beard
« on: February 08, 2008, 12:45:56 AM »
Please tell me what you think. I just realized that Jack had that long beard in the season 3 finale FF and in the season premiere FF he tells Hurley he's thinking of growing one. That leads us to believe that the second FF happens before the first. BUT...
My question is after how many? 80 something? days on the island and no one shaves and no one has a beard. So does this give more evidence to something about growing/life-span/regeneration/immortality. Or does it just not matter and am I making it into something it's not?

People do shave, though. Ever since they found the hatch with the shower and toiletries, I think we're supposed to not ask questions like that anymore. Just assume they have basic toiletries for occasional shaving. I assume the same about haircuts -- someone's got a pair of scissors somewhere and they give each other basic haircuts as they want to.

Ahhhh-Okay that's exactly why I read these boards. I always forget things-although that should've been a no-brainer.
Thanks and I do agree on the downward spiral thing.

Maybe the beard is a clue though.  My brother always make fun of Jack's perfect hair and whiskers that never grow.  Maybe the writers realized that it would be gross to show hairy women and stuff, but also stupid to have people magically clean.  Like French chick.  She seems like the kind of person who wouldn't care about shaving.  Jack would need to grow that beard for 10 years at the rate his facial hair seems to grow.

The producers HAVE stated that time may move differently on the Island.

I have a "theory" based on the two flashforwards we have seen:

The longer someone's beard grows - the more they want to return to the island.

I don't know. Have you seen some of the magazine photos of the actresses? They are gorgeous, I think what we see on the island is about as "gross" as they get.

Sad, but true. lol

While we're on the subject....why wasn't Jack's beard grey?  When it comes in on the show, it looks like that natural grey that most men have, but in the flashforward, it's so.......Just For Men-ish. :-\

GMTA - That's what I said!  Jack's beard is darker than I thought it ought to be two-plus years after the crash than it was two months after the crash.  LOL

According to uh, 'another' site's timeline, it's day 94 on the island, and Jack's flash forwards (in Through the Looking Glass) were two and a half years after the crash (April 2007); Hurley's (The Beginning of the End) were sometime in between.
