Hurley's comment to Jack
« on: February 11, 2008, 04:15:46 PM »
not sure if this was brought up, if so please merge into whatever thread

When Jack goes to visit Hurley at the mental ward, he clearly says to Jack

"we need to go back" - hurley
"We're never going back" - jack

"HE will do whatever he can to get us back" - hurley

who is he?? Locke?? Ben?? Walt?? Jacob?

did i mention this already???

My understanding, through what I heard and others(not those others) have said it was "it will do whateverit can to get  us back" It not he. To me that means the island wants them back.

i thought the same as well, but this morning my colleague (who thinks she is lost-guru) told me she watched in closed caption last night and hurley says "he"

this is why i asked the board, i have yet to watch it entirely in closed caption yet, i normally do that the night of a new episode

i'll research though

can we leave the thread until i find out for sure?? if its a moot point we can delete?

To me this means that Hurley thinks the Island wants them back. It's gonna take quite a bit more before I believe the Island is sentient. Though I haven't ruled it out!  ;)

well Hurley does say "IT" to jack, not "he" or "him"

so i think tend to think he was talking about the island

i cant believe i started such a crappy thread

I think that the more important part of the conversation took place earlier.  Hurley says that he should have went with Jack.  I wrote about this in another thread, but to paraphrase....that doesn't make sense.   Something bad is going to steer Hurley towards the Jackets.

I think something bad is going to happen to the Locketts. Something avoidable, yet terribly bad...

HURLEY: I'm sorry. I'm sorry I went with Locke. I should have stayed with you.

No no!  I think this is important!  Now that we know he said "IT will do anything..." we can discuss that.  I believe that Hurley's time with Locke made him see the island like Locke does: as an entity.  But WHAT caused that?  Will he have some future interation with Jacob?  Probably, since he was shown the cabin (which was never really where he saw it in the first place...so it was a planted vision...by what?)

It is also wise to note that Jack and Kate are off of the island, two of the Jack group.  And now we know that someone from Locke's group made it off of the island too, even though that was not Locke's intent.
