C'mon people, there is a semi-large difference between noticing people we have seen in the past and posting theories just because we can't remember what people look like. Just because it is Lost doesn't necessarily mean that we have seen him before because they like to introduce new characters as well. He clearly was not anyone we had seen before and his sinister behavior suggests he was lying about who he works for. Personally I am of the school that he is working for the company that owned/hired the freighter (possibly Hanso/Windmore) and somehow those people on the boat either died or got left on the island (hence the "are they still alive?" question). The possibility that this person has been aquianted with some of our Losties is definitely there, but for now we will just have to wait for more answers.

There are so many connections, sometimes it is hard to accept that it is just a new character. But he is!
He could be connected to many groups. We have 3. The oceanic group, the Others and whoever is behind them and the Freigher group.

Did anyone get the 'Oceanic Lawyer' was a reference to Death? The Lawyer as he called himself was sitting in front of a chess board. Chess is the game you play when bargaining with death.....(well it is in most the books and films I've seen!) Anyway I may be clutching at straws?

Uh, dear, what about Dharma? Are they Oceanic or are they freighter? I've been trying to parce this out myself. We've got 1) Losties 2) Others, including mainland Others (Mittelos) 3) Dharma (purged by Ben but still functioning - think Radzinksy, Kelvin, Desmondo by defaulto). And I would think any of Hanso's people would certainly consider themselves pure-Dharma, not under Ben's control. So who does Oceanic belong to? Who does the freighter belong to?

Somebody else pointed out that his name is that of an angel in Revelations, so this might not be that much of a stretch.

There is usually something behind a name in Lost. Kate Austin was a famous anarchist. John Locke....obvious. D. David Hume...empiricism. Hurley Rayas...hindu king. Jack Shepard...savior.
That is why the lawyer's name is pertinent. At first I missed it, and later I mispronounced it.
Abaddon is biblical and refers to the gatekeeper of hell, shoel, or the otherworld. It also refers to a figure who rules over shoel....a place where all dead souls go in old Hebrew mythology.
Abaddon is also thought to be a demon, the antichrist, but separate from the devil.
In any case, Abaddon is not a name you want to come in contact with. No wonder Hurley is worried.

You forgot "Abaddon is one of the infernal names used in LaVeyan Satanism, and is first in the list—only as it comes first alphabetically—and means "the destroyer."
Not good for Hurley either way.

Careful, somebody just 'fessed up that her real, true, nonSWLS name is Abaddon.

I Agree with Lakie- Abbadon is either Alperts replacement or working for the same team.

WOAH BUDDY. Look we're all here just trying to make assumptions. Don't bog our hopes down! Whats wrong with us trying to make corrections. You're not right. No one is right because we're not the writers! So don't try to tell me or anyone else that their assumptions are wrong.

Chess is the game you play when bargaining with death I didn't think of the Seventh Seal reference. Good call, Lady Pen.
