My sister just sent me a dvd of the first episodes of this season.  Maybe I'll have a private Dexter marathon this weekend.  I'll look out for cheesiness and fake stuff.  Did CBS air season 2?  Or just season 1?  I don't remember.

I thought CBS only aired season 1 because of the writers strike, it was right before season 2 began. I really like him ackwardly trying to become more human and the inner strife it causes him.

Dexter, he seems to be ok...it's the others that seem to be cartoonish and shallow characterwise, the acting to me was way bellow par....

When I first started watching the season 1 episodes I thought the acting was amateurish.  Then the story got good and I learned to overlook the bad acting.  Maybe it's really bad directing.  Thay can't all be that bad.  But I love the show!.  Lou, if you haven't seen the second season you can watch it at http://video.tvguide.com/Shows/Dexter

You need to see Dexter's rehab sponsor.

I think the "bad acting" that you speak of, is actually the way dexter sees the world. people acting the way "normal" people do, doesnt make sense to him, so he sort of sees a fun house mirror version of everyone.

thats just my opinion.

Funny you should mention his sister.  She's dating Dexter (in real life).  Maybe it changed their on-screen chemistry.

If anyone is actually watching this show on any other netowrk other than Showtime (or a similar network that allows gratuitous use of the F word) you are missing out. I have had people tell me they dont like the show cause they dont like Deb, and that she never has anything of value to say. But the reason why that is is because she swears in pretty much every line she has. Dexter is an amazing show! Has anyone read the books though? Even better.

I haven't read the books.  Are there several or just one?

There are 3 as far as I know. The first season followed the first book very closely but had some differences at the end. Then the show went completed in its own direction. The second and third book are completely different from the corresponding seasons. But the books are really awesome. When you read them you can really hear Michael C. Hall's voice in your head. The narration on the show is just like the writing style of the books.

I like the dry narration.  This show has really grown on me.  I'll order up the books on your recommendation, grzn0.
