I'm glad other people think the coffin is too small too.

It was a cheap, but standard sized, coffin.

Yes, the body was that of Michael.

Michael, like Kate and Jack, had maintained a pantheon of lies and they eventually took a toll.  Thus, he killed himself.  Jack, bearing a similar load, realizes his destiny in this world.  He will find a way to die.

The lies, the guilt, the loss of hope......over what exactly?

Yeah, Michael's got a lot of guilt. If Walt found out about the two women he murdered, it'd push Michael over the edge. And explain why Walt wasn't at the viewing. My guess is that Jack's following the lives of the Losties and they aren't doing well. So he feels guilty both over a coverup (all the lying) and baecause the Losties would have been better off staying on the island. Not particularly logical given the death rate there, but logic is overrated.

Kate's used to living a lie, so is less affected. She'll need someone to save in order to get her back to the island. Hmm... If her mom's still fighting cancer, the hope of a cure would send her back.

Why do so many people think Michael is the one who hanged himself? Just because the person was survived by a teenage son? There are lots of people in the world with teenage sons.

Knowing the way the writers write, my guess is that John Lantham is someone we haven't met yet.

Not after what happened the last time she saw her mother.

It's Sawyer. After he leaves the island he takes up another alias and continues his conning ways.

Kate could care less, as does everyone else in the world judging by the turnout at the viewing.

Oh, sure she would. One last chance to redeem herself in her mother's eyes. That, and she needs to show remorse for killing her father.

Can't be Sawer because he has a daughter, not a son ( at least not yet!). I personally think it is a new character, what if it is Carl's father? We have yet to meet Carl's parents, maybe they are enemy's of Ben and that is another reason Ben went as far as he did to keep Carl away from Alex and to brain wash him. Isn't there suppose to be another group of others on the Island? I have always wondered what happened to the sheriff (by the way there was something very strange about her), maybe she moves among the groups on the Island like they are tribes or something.Could be where Carl's parents are.

I think that something big happens on the Island after the phone call, maybe the losties get caught in a war between the others and the people on the other end of the phone, and they lose many losties. This would make Jack very upset because the phone call was his fault, therefor the deaths of his friends would haunt him.
What do you guys think?!

"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

Now notice not Jermey Bentham the guy who would have been named after the philopshper hwo desinged the prison where prisoners didn'tknow they were prisoners.

Could it be Michael under an an assuumed name or a person we have yet to meet?

Has this been supported? And it does sound like Michael.

I suppose it could be Micahel since he would have a teenage son assuming that they made it back to the real world.
And if he commited suicide...then that makes him messed up like Jack
But...Why would Kate say "why would i go to the funeral" in almost disgust? And why would Jack be so torn up over it?
So...my guess maybe not Micahel at all
But I do agree something really bad happend after Jack called the ship and he is having a hard time coping with it

I believe Michael was more messed up before Jack ever was, but I know what you're saying. Leaving the island might have been a mistake, though I just don't see how yet.

LOL this is true...But in a different kind of "messed up" way
It seems like Jack is trying to forget or forgive himself
Maybe if it was Micahel he could not forgive himself for what he did and it ate at him
until he put an end to it....sigh...so much to look forward to eh?
