Charlie knew that Desmond would do anything to be in front of the viewbox and talk to Penny. If he didn't shut the door and lock it on his side, Desmond would have died trying to communicate with his woman.

I agree, Charlie's dead unless some mermaids save him. And he didn't have to die at all. So I guess he deserved to die for his stupidity or willingness to die.

This is along the lines of my thinking. Charlie did what had to be done. In my opinion, from his perspective, there was no other way. |
