Richard asking about Locke
« on: May 17, 2007, 12:47:10 AM »
It semmed that Richard Alpert was very interested in what happened to Locke. I think he said "did he hear..." before Ben cut him off and said Locke had an accident. This furthers the theories about the others seeing Locke as special, and Ben being threatened by it.

Richard is probably on board with Juliet in wanting Ben dead....so I'd say he wants to be certain Locke survives anything whack-nut-job Ben tries on him.

If he knows that Locke is the "One" then he is just getting whatever limited info he can out of Ben.  IF, and that is a big IF, he is a "native" and "knows"/"knows of" Jacob he must be assumming something is amiss with Ben and his power/control.  Clearly by the look on his face he does not trust Ben.  This will not be lost on Richard!

Maybe things started to go wrong with Ben when he got sick. No one else has gotten sick, so maybe Richard and the others have seen it as a sign that Ben is not who they thought...then enters Locke and the "ability" he has, like being able to walk again and even Ben getting better with Locke there. This could be why Richard and the others are looking at Locke now. Ben has fallen from his place on high and hearing or seeing Jacob would defiantly be a sign that Locke is special to Jacob and the Island. Would explain why Richard was so interested in Locke and what happened with Jacob.

I agree with this. His sickness shows a weakness, plus it became a priority and the others do not like that.

i agree with all of these posts, the dissention(sp?) among the others towards Ben seems to be a culmination of things in my opinion

basically what you have all said

-ben's losing sight on the "island's agenda" and focusing on fertility
-ben's tumor
-locke's sudden ability to walk
-etc etc

**btw i thought richard looked a tad older this week

If they don't trust ben or think he has changed, what's stopping any of them, even richard, from killing him. They all have guns, it's not like they haven't used them before. That would solve all their problems.

Well if they can not see or talk to Jacob, they might not want to do something that would upset him. There is the recurring theme of faith, maybe it has something to do with what the others or the natives believe, past down from their past. Besides if they have no absolute proof that Locke can replace Ben why take the chance of losing there connection with Jacob.

exactly!
the others can't kill Ben untill they are positive that Ben is not so special as he shows and that locke is.
ben and locke are the only ones who can see/talk to Jacob
And they are not stupid (just hostiles), can't get rid of the only connection to the "leader"

Ben and Locke are the only ones we know of that have been able to communicate with Jacob, but it doesn't mean that there aren't others. (Geez, are there "others"?  ;D)
