I noticed something while rewatching it...Ben and Annie are sitting on the swings and she gives him a birthday present. She takes the Ben doll and mentions "now we don't have to be apart"....just my guess, but I'm betting her family or whoever...was leaving the island and they were sad that they'd have to be seperated. So she comes up with the doll idea and gives it to him on his birthday, then she leaves the island. Ben walks into his "house" late at night...dad is drunk and passed out, it's nighttime....I'm betting he spent the rest of the day with her then said his goodbyes that night just before she left. (Would explain his VERY delicate state and why the last straw was his dad's verbal abuse which he has probably dealt with time and time again)

I really don't know who Annie is, though I at least know that she will be important.
Apparently she will be appearing in another episode
Did it seem to anyone else that Annie may be Horace's and Olivia's daughter?-sorry if someone mentioned this elsewhere. That is why Ben closed Horace's eyes after the purge.
Now here's a concept--What if Annie is Kate's mother? Somehow she left the island before the purge and started a new life far away from anything DHARMA. She's blonde and about the right age I guess. I know it seems a stretch but if memory serves me, I believe the military officer Kate knew as her dad turned out not to be her biological dad, nor was the stepfather her mother married later and Kate blew up. Or was he? Did they ever clear that up? I haven't thought too much about it but just throwing it out there. Or could her dad be someone else in the "Lost" universe?
I have thought that maybe Roger wasn't Ben's dad either. Horace did show up rather conveniently to the side of the road when Emily was giving birth, didn't he? And I think that the last we knew Kate's stepdad (Dwight?) was her biological father. Lots of people have been fooled about that kind of stuff though... Interesting ideas 9000!

There was a reason why Ben didn't find Annie's body, he would have made a point of finding her - if she were there. I don't think she died with the Dharma crowd. If Ben was the reason for the purge because Richard thought he was special, then Ben would have had Annie saved and we will see her at another juncture.
Richard gives me the creeps by the way - he looks like Norman Bates!!!

There is about 10 years missing from the story. By the time of the purge many things are possible.
a) she dumped him, he hates her, he killed her. Would explain his futrher alienation from Dharma.
b) she got off the island
c) she left with him, got pregnant and died giving birth. Would further explain his obsession with pregancy
d) many other reasons except her being Danielle

LOL, NewYorkTower -- I thought Richard looks like Norman Bates, too!
I'm with Jugdish on this one; I don't see how the fair-skinned blonde American girl could grow up to be Rousseau. I'll admit the thought crossed my mind for about a second, but nah. She obviously meant a lot to Ben because he still has the doll, so I'm going to go with the idea that she died somehow other than by his hand at the Purge, and he still misses her. The pregnancy thing makes sense; that would explain Ben's continuing obsession with fertility experiments.

So apparently the producers have confirmed what one nerd someplace worked out. That Annie is infact Kate. This guy ap[parently guessed by the freckles and that fact that gave the name Annie when she lived with that farmer dude breifly.

It can't be Kate. Ben is easily twenty years older than she is. Annie was within a few years of Ben as children.
