The notion that they're all dead and in purgatory doesn't make sense either. Otherwise, why would the others get all gushy about Locke being able to walk.
Because they believe that some people can actually improve and move towards healing--ie. heaven?Foxy, you're very pretty, but you're wrong... TPTB have denied purgatory. 
But, I'm just having fun spurring on a healthy debate!!

Hey, I have no problem with a good complement!
But as to 815--wouldn't a plane that crashed underwater have only bones--since most of the fish etc. would clean off the corpses? By the time they "found" the plane, well...alot could have been staged. She didn't say anything about dental records/DNA. Just underwater cameras right?

i'm laughing too.. pure hilarity
Anyways... still I don't know the accurate effects being underwater in the ocean with fish and sharks and stuff would have on all of those bodies. But how would they get 324 dead bodies/skeletons on the plane? The skeletons would need to be strapped in, fully dressed, the plane would need luggage, everything.

I think its a basic cover up. The easiest way to get people to not wonder where everyone is to fake a plain accident. They did not have to have all the bodies on there, all they had to have were a few and show those pictures. Im pretty sure they didnt lift the plain from the bottom so who will ever know.
The part about michael and walt is that they never got away. They got on a boat and were sent specific coordinates to go straight to where some of the others were.
Walt was special and they were not going to give him up that easy.

If it was found in pieces then a huge and very difficult conspiracy would have to be coordinated and implemented. The fact that it was "found" at the bottom of the ocean where only a remote camera could view it opens a much easier conspiracy to implement. If a Dharma/ Mittlewerk controlled salvage operation was hired to find the wreckage, then they control the video. Video and images are VERY easy to manipulate. They gave us this scenerio for a reason.

Which brings me to the main question.
If we take it as a given that it was a conspiracy/cover up.....
WHY?
To me it means that they brought our Losties to the Island for a reason
What is the reason?
My mind keeps going to that movie with Michael Douglas "the game". Except this one is sooooo much more important and sophisticated. A GRAND Experiment to top ALL experiments and research. Afterall wasn't that what Dharma was all about?
(We put them on a simulated dessert island and we create circumstances for them and we document how they react)
or
(These are genetically altered people that we have been watching/tracking/tracing all of their lives...and now we put them to the ultimate life tests)
