I know.  I thought that Kate was dumb last week when she attacked Sawyer.  I mean, she heard Juliet say that pregnant women die on the island.  AND, I was thinking that Juliet must have been stupid with Goodwin.  I mean, they had a scene.  Either she knows something I don't about protecting herself from pregnancy with 5 times the sperm count or she's dumb.

Actually, Juggy, protection is only 98% effective. A woman has natural spermicide that kills the foreign sperm. This gets rid of the amount that gets through. If there are 5 times the amount, the spermicide has to work overtime, and that makes it a lot harder to kill all the sperm.

Look at Ladybug post, I know a little about birthcontrol. Sawyer could of had a vasectamy since he had the kid. So increase sperm count would not matter. There are a variety of ways.

That's true... But mistakes happen... at least nine of them over the past three years.

No one said the 9 pregnancies were mistakes or accidents. Ben said to Juliet that the girl wanted to get pregnant and knew the risks. All we are saying is there are birth control methods that people could use.

I still think it's dumb.  Kate found out that pregnant women die two episodes ago and had her interlude with Sawyer last episode.  Why would a person chance it, protection or birth control notwithstanding?

And sad ... women don't tend to think their best when they are emotional. Or at least I don't.

We don't know for sure if Juliet and Goodwin were or were not using some form of protection.  I would assume that they would not want their only hope of regaining their fertility to die because she got pregnant.  That seems slightly counterintuitive.

Maybe it was like a prison, the other mother's didn't willingly become test subjects?  It also looked like a storage room.... nothing looked very organized.

I think that is exactly what this room was...storage.  If the losties or anyone else found the medical hatch they would assume it was abandoned.

I don't want to write it off as storage just yet!  I can understand that they would want to have a secret room to hide things in to make the hatch appear abandoned, but that is not what the origin of the Staff was about.  Unless original Dharma had a problem with people wandering in off the street that they would have to store their stuff so secretly, the designers of the hatch would have no need for a secret storage room with a foot thick door.  I'm sure there were plenty of closets built in to store their things.  It is my belief that the secret room was designed for something specific.... like a holding cell, either for pregnant women there against their will, or for quarantined people.  They are just using it for storage now because they ran out of pregnant women to hold there, or all the others are cured of the sickness.  Plus, didn't Juliet tell Sun that this is where the women came to die?  I don't see them bringing their dying to a glorified closet.
