why hasn't anyone ever tried to get high? besides Locke? I mean, way up on the mountain for better reception/ signal? Why haven't we seen a tower? that kinda thing would be easy to spot. I think that there has been very little island exploration as far as looking for a tower or even making a map. Our losties never leave a square mile area. maybe the helicopter ( that crashed presumably outside of the "bubble") had GPS and somebody will have to come looking for it. I don't believe the pilot is just flying around in her helicopter in the middle of the night. It probably belongs to someone that is looking for someone or something? I don't know. Sayid need a girl now that jack and juliette have each other ( and they're perfect together) they'll both get what they deserve i hope. and saywer and kate have each other. the helicopter pilot works for "Magic Box Delivery" maybe. i don't know.<------Pyro[move]
lol - agree about the get up high thing - I sure am getting frustrated with the whole island layout thing - snippets of maps just doesn't cut it for me... will someone please get up on the top of the mountain and survey the whole island? I know if I was out there stranded on a mysterious savage island I would send out search parties - who knows what you might find? running water, shelter, food, swings and slides....
The problem is that it takes DAYS to get around the island.  Sayid still has the map(s) from the Flame, and IIRC he took some from Danielle, too.  Trying to verify things would take weeks away from the relative safety of the beach.

They seem to have the food and water pieces all set for now.  Shelter is ok with their magical tarp bag or whatever (do we really believe a commercial airliner would have a couple dozen blue tarps on board?).  They have ping pong, plus there was a golf course which no one has used in quite a while. Even a cemetery and a farm (did the church get knocked down or just abandoned?). The basics are covered, with the exception of a reasonable safety perimeter around their camp.

It reminds me of what I used to hear about the Air Force when I worked for the Navy.  They build the officer's club and the golf course first, and then ask for more money to build the runway!

I'd love to have a look at a map of the whole Island for once, as well.

I'm with you on going to higher ground and surveying the island... wasn't there an episode of a 70's sitcom (Monkees I think memory is fading)
where they thought they were marooned on a deserted island and after a few days of fighting and setting up camp... they hear music and go hiking and just on the other side is a Club Med resort complete with pool bar and cabanna boys.......? just a thought ...LOL
