One of two scenarios will happen.  The Satellite phone will not work despite a fresh battery and the survivors will investigate why there are wires running out into the ocean to discover a eletromagnetic perimeter  OR  The Sat phone won't work because the losties are in another world in which nobody has a sat phone and thus there's nobody to talk to.
insert  twilight zone music here

insert music since episode one so many homages and lifting from it since day one.

The Sat phone was not on the island at the time of the electromagnetic pulse (emp) from the hatch implosion (or was that a space/time ripple from Charlie not dying in the hatch?).  The Sat phone should work.  If no caller can be reached, then you get into some bizarre possibilities.

I would be just a little bit happy if someone would turn on, or at least mention, the walkie talkie they found in Paulo's suitcase!

Maybe Juliette will see Paulo's walkie, and use it herself to make contact.  Or then again, maybe Hurley will turn in on in time to hear Juliette incriminate herself.

No idea about the satellite phone.  Good reception at any time seems to me that the electromagnetic force from the hatch implosion didn't destroy all future communication devices that come to the island.  I think we should probably just assume that the pilot's gonna die and the batteries are dead.  End of story.  But at least they have a hula doll!

The whole time I have been reading this thread all I can think of is:

Can ya hear me?  Can ya hear me, now?

Me too, only I've got the little girl from 'Daddy Day Care' saying it in my head! lol

I agree...just like a cell phone the bars mean it has a signal with a tower...your phone is constantly checking back and forth with a tower for the best possible signal...sat phone works the same way...what is interesting is it also has gps....

I say Sayid is like the Professor on Gilligans Island...he's going to get some coconuts, stir sticks, mango juice to charge the phone...

why hasn't anyone ever tried to get high? besides Locke? I mean, way up on the mountain for better reception/ signal? Why haven't we seen a tower? that kinda thing would be easy to spot. I think that there has been very little island exploration as far as looking for a tower or even making a map. Our losties never leave a square mile area. maybe the helicopter ( that crashed presumably outside of the "bubble") had GPS and somebody will have to come looking for it. I don't believe the pilot is just flying around in her helicopter in the middle of the night. It probably belongs to someone that is looking for someone or something? I don't know. Sayid need a girl now that jack and juliette have each other ( and they're perfect together) they'll both get what they deserve i hope. and saywer and kate have each other. the helicopter pilot works for "Magic Box Delivery" maybe. i don't know.<------Pyro[move]

lol - agree about the get up high thing - I sure am getting frustrated with the whole island layout thing - snippets of maps just doesn't cut it for me... will someone please get up on the top of the mountain and survey the whole island? I know if I was out there stranded on a mysterious savage island I would send out search parties - who knows what you might find? running water, shelter, food, swings and slides....

Too bad they can't just take the Sat phone to the Flame and hook it up there.

Why doesn't anybody ever remember to get batteries. arg.

All those things are in possession of the Others, not the Losties... The Others have plenty of batteries.
