Okay I've given this question a lot of thought and the answer is obviously...........
Porn.  I mean the guy was already blind in one eye....it was only a matter of time until he was completely blind. Cheesy

Quote thing won't work.  So, Puff said:

"Ya, if the island has restorative powers, you'd grow up normally....just not age.

The insertion in this episode that deals with the time question is Juliet's remark.  Today, I've been on this island 3 years.  If time moved slower on the island, then the plane would have crashed.....say, 30 years....from Juliet's earth time date of arrival.

The two times appear synchronous.  Time does pass on the island.  The allusion made by the producers in the past about time progressing differently may thus relate to the rates at which people age.  Thus, Ben is so smart because he is 815 years old."

Huh?  You grow up normally, you just don't age?  How does that work out?  Are you saying that they grow up normally until they reach maturity and then just don't have the diseases and maladies that make people deteriorate from that point on, i.e. muscle loss, vision loss, hearing loss, etc?

So, as long as they are on they are approaching maturity they are doing so at a normal rate (thus Alex at 16 appearing to be a normal 16 year old) but once they reach it they are pretty much timeless (Ben being much older than the 45 or so he appears to be)?

P.S. to Puff:

As Boone said to Locke when he predicted the rain:  "Don't tell me you learned that at the box company."  I am amazed at how informed you are on a variety of subjects.  What's your day job, if you don't mind me asking?  I'm not being sarcastic or anything...I'm truly wondering if you are some research scientist or former Jeopardy champion or just some high school whiz kid who can look up info faster than I can type.

Just to make it clear that I'm not being a smart-ass or anything, I'm an engineer and spent 8 years working as a civilian for the Department of the Navy.  So far I know we have at least one pilot, a mortician, a U.S. Customs worker, and someone who lives on a deep water harbor in Hawaii (from our "Is the Submarine Blown Up" conversation).

You now have a spine surgeon.  I burned out about a year ago and decided to take some time off after a nasty relationship with a girl named Sarah ended badly.  I am not making this up...I wish that I was.  As you can guess, the storyline of Lost hit me like a brick!  Too many similarities and I often find myself hating Jack, yet hoping the best for him.

My background is in orthopaedic surgery, I'm early forties, yada yada yada and just always took to a mystery.  I'm thinking about now becoming a writer.  Would someone tell the staff of Lost that I'm independently wealthy and looking for a cool job to fill up my time?  Again, I'm not kidding.

I'm pretty sure you'd make a good writer.  Of course, as an engineer I have many film industry contacts.  I will put in a good word for you. Smiley

About the Mikhail thing... The pilot didn't said they were missing for about three hours? For me it's enough to some news agencies to start broadcast. And Ben said that two days earlier the crash he discovered he had a tumor on the spine and a spinal surgeon suddenly falls from sky. Two days looks to me enough time to Richard get on Florida.
And it's not unlikely that Ben received the message of Alpern that he had Rachel on sight at the time of crash. So he would have take Juliet to the flame right after the book club meeting had finished anyway.

About the time on the island, I have been saying for a time here, that besides the dates, that shows the time passes the same way on the physical sense in and outside, that the simple fact they still have a 24 hour day, with common dawns and dusks, provided by the at least two watches they showed, and the marks on the blast door, and the timeline of Desmond and Kelvin, couldn't be ignored.
The remark on the time could apply on the underground but not on the surface of the island. And by underground I mean something deeper than the swan.

Smokey turned into Locke. That gave him the power of being always right. Hence he is the good one, winner of game and everything else for now on.

Been visiting the spoiler pages, have we?

I have today watched news footage of the worst gun related massacre and not a single name has been released.

The monitors don't explain Mikail's obtaining a medical record....especially one of a pregnant man.

There is more to Mikail's little exploits than just six monitors.

I noticed that none of the coverage stated that the craft was presumed lost, just missing.  Are they leaving open the possibility that the wreckage was, in fact, found?  Were those who perished in the plane crashing upon the island really those who were found alive with the located plane wreckage?  (And Vice versa?)

Oh, how the plot does thicken....

Why would they leave Mikail alone in his task of researching the losties?

Could the monitors be like Romper room? I mean at the end of every Romper Room show she has a magical mirror that she can see everyone in.
I'm placing bets that Ben was a former Romper Room cast member and stole the magic mirror.       Grin

Remember when Ben took Juliet there and said something along the lines of "just hope he doesn't shoot us"
Guessing ol' one-eye is not the most social creature.

Ya, that's kinda important....why would Mikail shoot anybody with Dharma purged?  He isn't too worried about wild animals as the cattle is unprotected.  And Where Are The Chickens (great name for an upcoming episode)?

Arcadia Park is another Stephen King reference.  This time, they are referring to the Talisman where King explores an atlernative/mirror universe with "twinners" and Arcadia Park is the portal.
