Why keep her sedated?

But if you were in a sub, under thousands of feet of water, how would you know where you were anyway?  The whole sedative thing I beleive was another poorly explained piece of writing.  A very disjointed episode...not well thought out.  No sedative would be needed because you would have no idea where you were anyway.  Leading me to believe that the sub was NOT the way they got to the island, it was a ruse.  They arrived by small plane and then were transported to the sub to make it look like that was the mode of transportation.

I disagree.  It's not how they got ALL THE WAY to the Island, but it's how they finally arrived there.  I still say that the sub operates between Fiji and the Island.  They flew to Fiji, put Juliet on the sub, and took her the rest of the way to the Island.  You tranquilize her so that she has absolutely no idea of how she got there.  We know the sub is not just a prop...they used it to sneak up on Desmond's boat, where one of the Others got shot by Sun.

Why switch from a plane to a sub to get to the Island?  Well, if you were routinely running back and forth, and people can't see the Island, wouldn't someone get suspicious if they routinely saw a boat head out to sea and disappear?  Wouldn't they eventually check that out?  It doesn't seem that you can actually land a plane on the Island because of the electromagnetic interference.  That's why I think they use the sub to go back and forth to Fiji.

It is true that she wouldn't know where she was even if she was awake on the sub.  The sedation was most likely to keep her from getting claustrophobic or asking too many questions.  She could have second thoughts if she was awake the whole time and knew that she was on the other side of the globe.

If they are in Florida yet and the island is in the pacific, they would have to fly to the other side of the country to get to the pacific or aren't they in Florida anymore...i guess I didn't catch that if they weren't.

I think she got there in the magic box. Then they carried her to the sub to make her think she arrived that way...

I was about to say that they left out of Portland, but I think you are right.  I think they flew straight out of Florida.

I need a ruling on where it was that they departed from.  Was it Portland or was it Florida?

I only ask because if it was Miami, then it ties in with Earhart being the anagram for HERARAT.  Amelia Earhart departed from Miami when she started her trip around the world only to be lost somewhere near Howland Island in the Pacific.

I'm pretty sure that they were still in the Miami area since Rachel was with her.

Thank you.  I figured as much, but I didn't want to guess without someone thinking the same thing!  LOL :D

Well, of course, I'm not the definitive answer in all this! :D But that would be my guess.

I think the point of drinking the sedative was more along the lines of Neo taking the blue vs red pill in The Matrix.

But then that would just be pure speculation on your part.  There are no facts to back that up.  So in light of that, I still maintain that it was a poorly written and executed scene.

Some facts from TLE tell us about Sri Lanka, a Korean off-shore project, and dealings in Africa, Coppenhagen, Sydney, etc.  They could have flown to any of these spots and then took the sub.  But I do believe that the sub was in use and not just staged.

I can hear it now.."Your diving to fast.  Do you reallly need that much angle on the bow plane.  Who left the ballast door open. Keep up that 3/4 speed and we'll be seeing the Coast Guard....
