I agree that Ben was surprised by the plane crashing to the island. He was not expecting it. But did people off the island want to bring people back to the island to cause Ben trouble. Someone like Pak or Widmore

I think any idea that some group conspired to crash 815 on the island is a huge stretch even for Lost. As far as we can tell outsiders can't even find the island on purpose, let alone arrange for an airliner to lose radio contact, lose its way, etc.

It's conceivable someone wanted the plane to crash, possibly sabotaging communications systems. It's not conceivable, to me anyway, that anybody planned it to crash onto our beloved isle.

Though fate is a big theme in this show, I still feel that there is some conspiracy going on.  Like how Naomi said that everyone in 815 had died.  Of course, she might be a liar...  I think a good question is how much does the outside world really know about the island?  Years ago, quite a lot, around the time dharma was getting set up.  But since the Dharma came, the island has been relatively hands off until now.  By now I mean Naomi and her friends.  There are so many possible connections that need to be answered before any of us can say for sure.

I think it is quite possible that there is some sort of conspiracy... Locke said everything happens for a reason. I have to agree with Juggy again and say that most likely it was either Paik or Widmore, IF it was a conspiracy. I'd like to see a conspiracy, but I don't know if it will happen... seems like a lot of story for only three more seasons...

TPTB were clear in answering what brought down the plane- Des failing to push the button, so we can't very well attribute the actual crash to a conspiracy.  However, when the plane crashed, it was already 1,000 miles off course due to the loss of radio contact 6 hours into the flight & the pilot's turning back toward Fiji.  I believe THAT may have been some sort of conspiracy.

Also- I know that somewhere around here, there is a pretty extensive list of all the passengers who were given tickets to flight 815 specifically.

So true.  I just can't shake the feeling that the entire series of events leading up to Desmond's not pushing the button was planned.  I can just see the very last episode of Lost we have this phantasmagoric scene with Widmore calling Ben who calls Kelvin who entices Des who misses the button that brings down the plane!  Damn.

No way man!  Remember that guy...I forget his name...he said something along the lines of 'give me a dozen babies and i will make one a lawyer, one a crook, one a doctor..." and so on.  He was one of those nature vs. nurture guys and thought that you could mold a person into anything you wanted.  Anyhow, there's this little part of me that thinks that there is someone out there in the realm of lost who is playing god- manipulating experiences, manipulating FATE ITSELF by gosh!  Like I say.  A little idea.  Wink

Actually yes, it still sounds too far out to me....I think if we find out that its all too in control, it will take away from the show completely...like its all preordained...I sure hope not...

But as for all the other farout stuff you mentioned, it really isnt that far out...without the surviving the crash we wouldnt have much of a show...

Well I guess it's a good thing that neither of us write the show because we would both be disappointed with each others versions!  Which is the great thing about this forum I think.  I still think it'd be totally rad  Cheesy

I have to agree with PL, Cowboy up and LostandSeek that there was no conspiracy to crash the plane onto the Island.  However, I do agree with Jugdish that the Dharma people are looking for the Island. My question is what is Dharma going to do with Ben?  Looking forward to that confrontation.
