What about when it took Locke down the hole, when they were on the Black Rock mission?

Good question!  I don't know.  But I do know that's when we saw the Hurley bird for the first time.

Nice connection.  I think folks have forgotten about the Hurley bird.

The second time we saw it, Smokie also appeared, didn't he?  It seems to warn them of danger, I think.

i completely disagree... I think sometimes it's just obvious when it's about to rain... and I can imagine it's more obvious in a tropical climate...

I think the rain was to show Kate's determination to go back and help Jack. It also created a conflict between Juliet and Kate... follow the trail or wait til after the storm.

I guess we have to agree to disagree, then.  I think it's painfully obvious that the writers are trying to make a point concerning control of the weather or a psychic tie to the Island.  The best part is:

WE SHALL SEE!

deal! agree to disagree!

I wont debate whether or not there are experiements, but I just think that sometimes you can just tell when it rains... not cycles or ties to an island...

either way, I hope I am wrong so there is more to the story..

Isn't there a meteorology station on the Island. maybe they do know if its going to rain in the sense of a weather report.

p.s. moisture in the atmosphere conducts electricity. thats why we don't have thunderstorms in the winter.

Um....you are.  There is more to this story. ;D  [/jk-but you know I have to press it.  I'm a woman.  ::) lol]

I agree with casino, but I also agree with you in that sometimes you can just tell when it's going to rain.  I can usually tell where I live. :)

Maybe smokie is an electrical entity that requires moisture in the air to operate. That could be why he tends to come out and play when it rains. Moisture could be the current that is needed for its locomotion. Have we ever heard thunder before on the Island?

Smokey appears to be an entity that can split into many parts and rejoin with fluid movement. It never seems to be flying around just doing nothing, it always has a purpose or a mission. With that thinking i figure it has to be controlled by someone else. It picked up Eko and slammed him, and it grabbed Locke to drag him into a hole. Definately manipulated by someone.
