I'd say something smartassy like that too for most theories like this, but Locke clearly predicted the moment rain would fall once before, and Juliet seemed to indicate the same thing.  I agree it has something to do with Dharma meteorology experiments.

We know that one aspect of the Dharma projects was weather experiments.  We were told this in one of the orientation videos, the Swan, I think.  I think the rain is on a cycle and that is why Juliet knows when it will happen and I think that Locke figured it out.  Plus, is the rain connected to cerberus?  We always see him during or right after a good rain!!

I also think that there is some weather machine or climate device.  As for cerberus, I don't think it rained when it killed Eko?

I guess you're right.  For some reason I thought it had rained when Eko was standing there with Yemi.

Exactly.  Nancy Drew has a point.  Either the rain is on a cycle that the Others are aware of, or there is some kind of link with the Island that makes them more aware of weather patterns, or something like that, but it wasn't just coincidence or the smell of rain.  (A) Why mention it at all?  Why not just let it start raining.  (B) No trickle of rain, no drops and then a gradual increase.  One minute it's not raining, the next minute it's full on raining.  Yeah, I know that can happen naturally, but I think it's foreshadowing that it happened the same way to Locke and Juliet.  Also, I think it's much more telling that she predicting the rain within 45 seconds or so, just as Locke did, than predicting it a day or a few hours in advance.  The timing is too coincidental.

I agree that we often make something out of nothing, but to me putting this down as coincidence is just ignoring the obvious.

The big question is, what tipped her off?  Is it time based like Nancy said, a psychic link the Island like I think, or something else?  I'm intrigued by Nancy's theory about a time cycle.

i completely disagree... I think sometimes it's just obvious when it's about to rain... and I can imagine it's more obvious in a tropical climate...

I think the rain was to show Kate's determination to go back and help Jack. It also created a conflict between Juliet and Kate... follow the trail or wait til after the storm.

I guess we have to agree to disagree, then.  I think it's painfully obvious that the writers are trying to make a point concerning control of the weather or a psychic tie to the Island.  The best part is:

WE SHALL SEE!

The first thing that came to my mind was in season 1 with Locke and Boone - I can't see that being a simple coincidence. It has rained on the island many times before without the need for someone to foreshadow it by saying, oh it's about to rain.
So yeah, I agree with you Nancy Drew and whoever else said it. I think the rain is on a cycle and Locke, being as in tune with the island as he is  ???, was able to figure that out quite quickly.

My thinking is that it was Dharma's way of having a constant supply of fresh water on the island.  I know there is a waterfall and a stream and a little lake, but rain is replenishing what is taken for human/animal consumption.  I think they put the rain on a cycle because they knew they needed to keep balance for the environment on the island.

That's what I thought too, but we don't think it rained when Eko got killed.

Also, Juliet said 'it's going rain, shouldn't we wait til morning?' If the rain brought smokie she would be on the other side of that fence in a flash.

True, but maybe that's why she wanted to wait til morning.  Maybe she thought taking shelter was the better route.

We need to re-watch the epi when Eko dies.  I could've sworn that it rained for a few minutes.
