The answer could fall under the master plan theory.  As this whole thing was set up from the beginning.  Christian, Anthony Cooper,  Desmonds gf daddy, are all apart of a bigger identity then what they lead up to being,  Hince the reasoning of having the same whiskey.  Which also makes you ask who had it on the plain?

are you saying that they found the bottle because of Christian's presence on the plane and his fine taste in alcohol?    Oh god I so get it now!

I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense.  I have actually been looking for it in different bars and restaurants lately, so that I could see what the big deal was, and not many places have it.  The fact that it popped up so many places, including on the plane and in Ben's house, seems to point out that it is the liquor you have on hand for when the boss shows up!  Or, the gift the boss gives you for doing a good job, or something like that.  It would seem to tie Widmore, Christian, and Ben together, at least.

There have several questions about Christians body not being allowed on the plane due to incomplete documentation.  I happen to be a funeral director and may be able to shed some light on this.  If the death of an American occurs overseas the first thing the family needs to do is contact the local US Embassy, and they pretty much do everything for you.

Obviously, for dramatic effect that wouldn't work.

Basically the paperwork you need would be a Consular Mortuary Certificate, which would help you clear customs faster, a certified copy of the death certificate, if that isn't completed at time of departure, you would need a affidavit saying the body had no quarantineable diseases, and a burial/transit permit.  The airlines issue some sort of permit for customs as well.  It is not required that the body be emblamed.
In reality all of this paperwork is done for you and has already been faxed, proofed, and approved before the body even gets to the airport.  It's the responsibility of the funeral director and the US Embassy to get all of the paperwork in line, and to deliver the body to the airport for the transfer, the family wouldn't have to deal with any of it.

We really need to make a list of subject matter experts here.  That's some good info, tweedle.  Thanks a lot.

Very good information indeed!  Especially the part about not needing to be embalmed...

Good info Tweedle
And yes if all paperwork was not in order at time of departure
US Customs would not allow entry into the US (I am a Customs Broker)
But I'm not sure how involved the Airline would be to make sure that all paperwork was in order.
I have not cleared Customs for any dead human bodies to date.

Of course the fact of "realism adds to any movie...but fact remains, its a TV show and there are always going to be some inconsistancies with "real" life...I know it's hard to distinguish between creative writting in Lost becasue we are all such big Lost fans....
