"The Others always lie"...
That's becoming somewhat of a cop-out response around here... It's being used to keep every possible theory alive and kicking lol.
Occam's Razor, people.
Maybe...just maybe...Juliet said she knew how Jack's dad died because, well, he's really dead.

does it matter that juliet said he was dead when there have been constant allusions to the dead not staying buried on the island?

Maybe Juliette isn't as in the loop as we think she is. She could believe that Christian is dead, when the higher ups know that he is not. Also, she wouldn't tell Kate if she did know he was alive. Word gets around, you know.

i like that thought. juiet's not in the loop, and believes christian is really dead. i agree that she wouldn't tell kate if she knew christian was alive, but i don't think she would lie about him being dead. if you'll notice juliet's lies are lies of omission (most of the time). she said she didn't know what smokey was, she didn't say she didn't know how to control it. she really doesn't know what it is (i believe), so it wasn't really a lie.

Very much expecting this. But don't worry Christian lives theory is still alive.
Two explanations for Juliet's statement.
1) She is a liar. She lies all the time. She lied about the key to the handcuffs. Lied about the monster, lied about being out there. How did she know the fence was off?
2) She, and the others, truely believe Christian is dead. See Christian faked his death. They got the forged autopsy report so they believe he is dead. The others were fooled also.
Juggy, Concerning your sig line "Vincent is a dog - nothing more." I believe it has now been firmly established that Vincent is the gay character that the writers have referred to. Please amend this line to say "Vincent is a gay dog - nothing more." Thanks, Casino

juggy, i really hate to disagree with you since we have agreed on so much in the past so with that....if Jacked was tricked...and the others were tricked......then whats the point?? who and why is Christian trying to trick? also on top of Juliet mentioning it.....the REAL conclusive evidence here, is in fact, in one of your reviews.......producers said "corpse" in reference to christian also - whoever is tying the spiders to jacks dad faking his death in australia....PLEASE STOP......thats uber ridunkulous!!!! lol jacks dad is dead, end of story...... this is a classic case of reading too far into things....,lets say he faked his death, was chilling in the casket.....was he really going to ride in a casket back to LA?? thats a lil creepy dont you think??

I think the theory is that he somehow got out of the coffin before it got loaded onto the plane. I don't think we have seen yet how Jack managed to change their mind, right? Maybe they changed their minds because it was just an empty coffin with no body in it. That said, cbw420 has a good point about what the writers said. They specifically said Christian's CORPSE, not Christian. Makes me think that the man is truly dead.

I think Juliet was simply trying to make Kate feel out of the loop, make her feel that she actually knows nothing about Jack. Juliet doesn't know much about him either, only cold hard facts about what has happened in his life - that doesn't mean you really KNOW a person. So anyways, if Juliet actually knows herself that Christian is still alive she would never tell Kate because she is trying to make her feel excluded. And if she belives he is dead, all she's trying to do is rub it in Kate's face that she knows what happened while Kate doesn't.

Good one! See, that just shows that Kate's mind is reeling. I think if she had been thinking straight, she would have definitely shot back with something like "What, did you read his resume? That means you know him? Every played tonsil hockey with the man.....BECAUSE I HAVE!" Confusius say: "Woman cannot truly know man without frenching him in jungle."

Christian has been involved with the lives of Jack (duh), Sawyer, Claire and Ana-L so far. Could he be the key to bringing them all to the island? Has he met the others (Kate, Locke etc) and we just dont know? Is he HIM? I dunno. But.. I think we all agree that Dharma has done some genetic work, so I dont think it is too far off to say that Christian is alive in some form. I am going to side with the Christian Lives group and add it to my signature (mostly because that is a story I would love to see).

I think that this episode didn't actually give us that much information about whether Christian is alive or dead. It was very political: it neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of his being alive or dead.
Yes, Juliet said that he died, but she can't be completely trusted, having been a part of The Others.
One of the problems with the ultra-analyzation that we're all so fond of doing on this site is that an answer sometimes isn't an answer. Even if they came out and said, "Christian is dead," there would still be people speculating, and we wouldn't really know if he is dead because they have brought science-fiction into the show already. Anything is possible if you go that avenue because the scientific laws no longer apply.
That being said, I believe he's dead.
And I also think that one of these days they're going to find his decomposing body with ID and Claire and Jack will figure out their relationship.

There's hope and then there's guilt, and I know the difference. Christian said that to Claire. You all are doing an awful lot of hoping on this one. If Christian is alive, you must realize that all of the characters on Lost (who are dead) must be alive. That would kinda complicate the storyline and would cost ABC a great deal to keep those guys on payroll. Just ain't going to happen. Christian will be flashbacked to death, manufactured by the magic box, and will probably have some good stuff to say.....but he's not alive. Also, there is no Easter Bunny. Sorry. Reality bites.
