When Kate Juliet are hiding from the monster, why the flashing lights?  Did this only affect Juliet or did kate notice?

Has anybody ever confronted monsta at night?  Maybe it always takes a picture of its victom so that it can make a collage and someday end up as the subject of a gruesome slasher movie.

eko encountered the monster twice, as did Locke. The second time Locke saw it, it tried to pull him down a hole... maybe the first time it sees you it is checking you out. The second time it takes of bidness...

I didnt see Vincent though

I'm now confused -- I never thought of smoky scanning, it sounded so much like machine gun fire and the flashes corresponded with the sound.  I thought someone/thing was fighting back at smoky

I think JMart response was the best one so far. I agree that it was doing the same thing it did to Mr Eko.

Almost everyone who encountered the monster for the first time, it reads the victims mind, then it leaves, then at their second encounter tries to kill the person's mind it read. (happened to Locke, Eko now Juliette)

Sorry to sort of off topic a bit,  but the thing that stood out the most for me about the second monster scene was when Juliette turned on the defense fence, why didn't the monster just float on top of it? lol.

Offline this is some crazy stuff

Actually I think it was something to do with what Locke said.

He said he looked into the eye of the eyeland and it was beautiful maybe they saw light.

Like Locke did when he saw it.

well maybe not maybe its just taking pictures,  but wut the hell is it.

You notice that in any episode that we see the monster we dont see Vincent.

Was I the only one who was just waiting for the writers to pull out the 'the smoke monster scrambled Juliet's memory so she can't tell the castaways any details' plot twist?

Thank God that didn't happen. Would have been lame.  I like the idea of it scanning her fears.
