The shot were Nikki was looking over the plane wing was a redo of a shot from the pilot that looks like it was re-shot over a green screen.  It can be seen here:  http://lost.cubit.net/forum/index.php/topic,4246.0.html  I think it was just to integrate her into the old footage rather then anything more sinister.

As for Paulo, the impression that I got was that he was looking out at the sea/sky and wondering what the heck had just happened.

Wow.  If you didn't know better, you could mistake Nikki for Shannon in the second picture.  Thanks. versed.

So my theory still holds up.  TPTB take every possible Sci Fi reference they can find and throw it in, only they come up with some logical explanation for it and reveal it later.

If you reference lots of different themes, people are bound to recognize some of them and think, hey, I know what it is!

So just remember, it's like Purgatory, but it isn't.  It's like Vanilla Sky, the Bermuda Triangle, Nanobots, Star Wars, Atlantis,..., but it isn't.

LoL...exactly. Well, actually, I had the theory that the writers DID have one specific explanation behind all the island stuff, but fans figured it out so quickly that they changed the reason behind what we experience. Then fans figured out that new reason really quickly, so they changed the reason/secret for the island and everything once again...only to have the fans figure THAT out immediately once more lol.

The way I see it, Lost is on its fourteenth explanation/reason...and the writers are saying to themselves "PLEASE don't figure this one out yet!"
While it is not purgatory it doesn't mean there isn't a purgatory like story being played out, it's just not literaly purgatory.

JJ himself when asked what the show is about said: “This show is about people who are metaphorically lost in their lives who get on an airplane and crash on an island and become physically lost on the planet Earth, and once they are able to metaphorically find themselves in their lives again they will be able to physically find themselves in the world again. When you look at the entire show, that’s what it will look like.”

So while not purgatory the theme is the same.

I don' think there was any big mystery thing they were looking at - like someone alreadu said it was integrating them inot the original pictues and Paulo was wondering how on earth he could be alive after falling out the sky.

I'm liking Casino's theory that the people who actually landed on the island were brought back to life. There are holes in it still but so far it's one of the better theories I've heard.

Slightly off topic.
After a plane crash the authorities always find naked bodies - the gforce and differential pressure drops rip the clothes off.
As far as i know nobody was naked or found dead naked.
Makes me wonder if there was a crash at all.

What about all the plane pieces on the beach, like the big jet that sucked the guy in?

Maybe if it was on HBO they would have been naked ;)

I am more curious as to what Sawyer was looking at when he found the shoe in the tree.
Hurley even asked him about it.
....and Sawyer answered the question at the end of the episode:  He saw that someone had been digging.

My theory is that nobody survived the plane crash.  Mid-air breakups are the worst...usually nobody survives.

So, I think that everyone died, but the Island was able to bring some of them back to life...those that weren't too traumatically injured.

I mean, Jack was in the jungle.  You crash out of the sky at 300 miles an hour or so and just land safely between some trees?  Wouldn't the impact alone kill you?

It's just my theory, but I think it's a good one, and I think some people were confused when they woke up.  See, Locke had physical evidence that something screwy went on during the crash....his legs were working...and he's not looking a gift horse in the mouth.  Look at Dr. Artz's reaction, though.  "Am I alive?  Did I make it?  Am I okay?"  He should have been dead, and he knows it, but yet he's not, and his brain can't process it.

What I think is that Paulo had a little bit different experience.  The rest of them just hit the ground...I think Paulo might have been ejected from the plane at some height and was SURE that he would die, and it boggles his mind that he is uninjured, and his mind is trying to work it out.  That's why Nikki can't get his attention.

I totally agree with you and have thought this for some time...they died- but yet they didn't die.
