there is no way tptb will bring back nikki or paulo.  sure they COULD come back and say they were alive and dug themselves out, but they won't.  why?  because the viewers can't stand nikki & paulo, after we saw how they are out for only themselves in last night's episode, there is really NO way they will bring them back.  tptb still have to think about the viewers.

Which is why they will and there not bringing them back there not dead yet... there Paro. Lies...ed.... Come on killing them off because people don't like them and couldn't see how they fit in?  There just getting interesting.   I don't know or care if they will be back... but if they don't the 'tptb' are a bunch of morbid SOBs... buried alive is the most torurous death on the show yet.  And technically the others killing their own... whole new spin.

I believe there is a clear moral to the story. The parallel to Nikki & Paolo is Sawyer slowly finding redemption for his past actions, as well as Charlie.

I completely agree, and I for one am happy that Sawyer and Charlie are on a better path, and I'm vary happy that Nikki and Paolo are gone for good. (hopefully)

Sand weighs 2,500 pounds per cubic yard.  If the grave were 6 ft x 3 ft x 4ft that would be 72 cubic feet or 2.66 cubic yards which equal 6,650 pounds of sand sitting on top of them.  The weight alone would be too much for them to allow chest wall movement, let alone the fact that people can't breathe through sand. 

I think they are toast.

That the producers decided to kill off much-maligned castaways Nikki and Paulo on this week's episode may not have been a shock to fans. But how the greedy, murderous pair died provided one of the biggest twists — and thrills — of the season. (After being paralyzed by spider bites, the not-so-dynamic duo were buried alive — albeit unwittingly — by Sawyer and Hurley.) "People hated them before they even opened their mouths to say anything significant because it felt like they were crashing the party," exec producer Damon Lindelof acknowledges of the characters who were abruptly introduced last fall. "The easiest thing would have been to just write them out and forget they ever happened, like the cougar on [Season 2] of 24. But that's not Lost. We should at least own up to it."

Kiele Sanchez wasn't bothered by the criticism directed at Nikki and reveled in going out with a bang, yet wasn't too crazy about filming the burial scene: "I am horribly claustrophobic — I can't even have a blanket over my face — so I didn't have to do a lot of acting. We do not know if they are dead, could one of them climb out of the sand, or does someone go back and dig for the diamonds, and save them in the process.

It seems to reason, though, that with the diamonds being worthless, no one will dig for them.  I suppose Nikki could have started to move again as the burial was taking place, so she could have been digging while they were putting the sand on her.  I don't know that the lack of oxygen would matter when they were barely breathing to begin with.  If their heart rates were slowed to like 5 beats/minute, they wouldn't need much oxygen.  It would be kind of like being in a freezing cold lake.  There have been people that have survived after being underwater for an hour just because the same effect has taken place.

The temperature is what slows down the metabolic process in cold water drowning.  It is not the same thing for warm conditions.  Brain cell death begins at 6 minutes without oxygen.  A heartbeat of 5/minute is not capable of supporting the necessary functions of intracellular respiration. 

But, this is a TV show... so if they want Nikki and Paulo back, they will come back with "bullet proof breasts" or maybe reeds they used as snorkles.

i thought from the beginning that when nikki and paolo were first introduced that they were being brought onto the show to be killed off quickly because the writters didn't want to kill off any more major characters, or that they wanted a couple more attractive faces on the show.

It was very odd that they were uncovered for so long, & that they kept focussing on their faces.  I saw this as foreshadowing that they may have not been really dead.  Creepycreepcreepiness. *shudder* I was right.

It had to be outrageously funny for TPTB to hear everybody asking for N&P's heads, when they were planning to kill them off all along.

They had to listen to all of the complaints and pretend to convince people that they will be good characters to watch - and that made for a good surprise.

And I'm thinking that P got more than 1 spider bite and was dead or still paralysed when buried - and he really was trying to keep N from running away and leaving him.

But N got what she deserved.  She was the Black Widow, and she got to watch as they buried her.

Also - Hurley has now officially killed somebody - if that actually matters at some point down the road.

I hope Nikki & Paolo aren't dead. The being buried alive thing really bothered me, and I'm not usually bothered by characters getting killed, brutally even. And further more, if they are dead.....the Losties would have killed them (knowingly or not, still guilty). Dumbies.....buried them so fast, didn't know the cause of death, rigamortis didn't even set in.

Anyways, I for one found it hilarious that N&P found the plane, the pearl station, and encounter the others so fast before any of the main characters. It was pretty funny when Paolo said he wasn't going to climb up into the plane because it might fall.

I agree with Nancy Drew, I was also going to say N&P doesn't need much oxygen since they're paralyzed. I’m guessing the paralysis would be the same as blowfish poison.

It would be hilarious if Vincent dug them up, and they're running around on the island still but nobody knew they were alive. Didn't the Producer guy of Expose say to Nikki that they could always bring her back next season.......and weren't they filming season 4 of Expose? It could be foreshadowing of Season 4 of Lost.

I don’t know why everybody hates N&P so much, the other 30+ losties on the beach has to be doing something while the main characters are doing all the stuff they’re doing. It seems like N&P now have a lot of turmoil (like the main characters) they have to work through now…..if they’re still alive.
